LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. J. O. Keene, owner of Braw Lad and other horses that have raced on local tracks, returned yesterday from Russia, where he has been since July first meeting with unusual success training the stable for a Mr. Bolica, a Russian banker. In the short time that Mr. Keene was in the land of the Czar he annexed forty purses, of which seventeen were stakes, including the St. Petersburg and Moscow Legers two of the principal racing events of Russia. Both these races were won by a three-year-old named Sirdar, which Mr. Keene says was the best horse in Russia. Before leaviug for America Mr. Keene signed to train next year for Mr. Lazzarus. a Polish banker, who contemplates going into the racing game on an extensive scale. Jockey Coburn was fined 50 by Starter Dwyer in the third raco for beating the barrier on I. Samel-son. C. S. Bush, president and general manager of the Crescent City Jockey Club, was among the visitors at the track yesterday. CONTINUED ON SECOND PAGE. LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Continued from First Page.
