THOROUGHBREDS AT AUCTION. Quite a large number of prominent turfmen were attracted to the paddock at Morris Park laat Friday by the clearing out sales of several prominent stables, and before the bugle called the horses to the post for the first race several good racehorses had changed hands and were scheduled to seek honors in fields new to them. F. Ambrose Clark, the amateur rider and sportsman; Patrick Meany, former steeplechase rider, and Gwynne Tompkins, trainer for J. W. Colt, were all in search of material for the jumping game, and as a result several of Messrs. Sanford and Sons horses went for good prices, considering that recently they have been of little use as bread winners in the running line. Schoharie went to. Meany after lively bidding at ,100, while Tompkins secured Douro for ,000. Mr. Clark purchased the two-year-old Old Fort for 50, and in the opinion of many secured a bargain. A dozen and a half of two-year-olds belonging to W. C. Whitney and Sydney Paget were sold, but few of them realized any sort of prices. Alhambra was secured by J. Hynes for ,000, while Rome Eespess bought the bay filly by Lissak Thora for 00. The summaries: Property of Messrs. S. Newton Bennington also took Musidora for ,500, and Numeral went to Fred Berlew for ,000. Hunter Raine went to Alex Shields, after quite a lot of opposition from various sources, for ,000.
