Tea Rose III. ran by Duplicate while rounding the far turn, took command when her rider was ready and came away without much effort. Horsa ran well and finished strongly through the last sixteenth. Miss Mae Day was in a pocket for the first half and had to go all around the leaders to get up and got third place in the last stride. Angea and Belle of Elgin tired. Helgesen put up a bungling ride and lost ground by coming wide into the homestretch. Smyrna showed early speed, but tired. Crest showed the most early speed, but tired and quit when challenged in the stretch rue Sauber stumbled at the sixth jump and almost unseated his rider. Don Clarencio ran into the fence at the gap out of the field and broke his back. He was destroyed. Buck ODowd lost his rider at the sixth jump. Islip can do better. Kilmorie ran in improved form and was made much use of while rounding the far turn in overhauling Marlin. Melbourne Eclipse closed a big gap and finished strongly.
