DR. STEPHENS REPEATS. Although the card offered at Lakeside yesterday was of mediocre quality, it was well balanced throughout and was productive of a good days sport. The track, while still somewhat soft and heavy, was drying out fast, especially toward the outside rail. Even though it should not rain today the going will still be slow. The most important race of the day was the fourth, a dash of one mile and fifty yards, for four-year-olds and upward. Dr. Stephens, on tho strength of his good showing the day before, was made an even money favorite and rewarded the confidence placed in him by his many backers by winning easily. Mies Shanley led on sufferance for the first half, where Bobbins took Dr. Stephens to the front and he remained there to the end, winning easily by one and a half lengths from Althea, which beat Henry of Trastamare two for second placo. The last named tired when the pinch came. The opening race, a dash of five and a half furlongs for three-year-olds and upward, proved an easy thing" for the favorite, James J. Corbett, ably ridden by Battiste. Ho assumed an easy command after the first eighth had been run and won as his rider pleased, going away by five lengths from Big Injnn, which beat Irmas Choice a half length for second placo. Lady Rice showed much early speed, but was well beaten when a furlong from home. Illuminate was backed for a good thing, but was never a serious contender. In the second race, a five and a half furlongs dash for three-year-olds and upward, Bnmmer won by a neck from Braw Lad, which beat Delia Ostrand a head for second place. Delia Ostrand led by a fair margin un to the last eighth post, where she began to tire slightly. Along here Bummer moved up fast and got up in time to pass Braw Lad in the last few strides. J. Walsh was of little or no help to the latter when the pinch came. Evelyn Byrd ran a dull race and was never a serious contender. Jaubert, loDg overdue, finally scored, taking the third race, a dash of one mile for two and three-year-olds by a neck, from Aurie B., which beat Whiskey King two lengths for second place. Whiskey King was undoubtedly short, for, after showing spopd for six and a half furlongs, he began to tire. Jove ran well for six furlongs. The fifth race, a five and a half furlongs dash for three-year-olds and upward, proved an easy thing for Filiform, which won by four lengths from David S which beat Sandfiea a neck for second place. The last named showed much speed, but tired perceptibly in the last fifty yards, Graden, the favorite, ran a poor race and never gave his backers a sign of hope. The finale, a dash once around the circle, was taken easily by Chickadee. Has Gift led to the final quarter, where Chickadee wont to the front at call, winning easily by one length from OHagen, which beat Dodie S. three for second place. J. Graham was of little or no help to OHagen when the decisive drive came. Dodie S. ran in improved form and bears watching from now on. ,
