Imperious is in great form, secured a lucky start and led by a safe margin throughout. He lacked in condition and was tiring at the end and will probably improve greatly. Ting a Ling closed a gap from an indifferent start and hniahed with a rush. Nugget broke slowly, but worked his way through the deep going and then failed to stay. Expedient, away badly, improved his position steadily and closed up fast at the end. Sir Tom Tiddler went woll for six furlongs. Scratched 31978 Kickumbob, 109. Imperious, show, 4 to 5. He made the most of his advantage and outstayed Gariota in the final drive. The latter had closed a gap on the turn and looked like winning when a furlong out, but was tiring at the end. Stuyve, away running and favored by the going, forced the pace and gamely stood off Matt Hogans strong challenge in the last furlong. The latter moved up fast on the stretch tnrn, but was tiring in the final strides. Malaspina came on well at the end and caught Muresca tiring badly. The latter had contested strongly with the winner for the first half. TJltruda and Intrepido were both going well in the lasj; furlong, but were outclassed. Kenil worth forced the pace throughout and stood a long and severe drive through the homestretch with great resolution. Sad Sam ran well but tired right at the end and was handicapped by an incompetent jockey. Gold Bell, sluggish and heavy-headed, lost much ground at the start, but closed a big gap and finished very strongly and was probably best. Eroma failed to stay. The latter went a wide stretch turn and a weak ride threw away second place for her. She is a useful filly. The Owl was going strongly at the end. Leash had no chance at the start. EL Rio Shannon finished with a rush right at the end. Diderot failed to stay after leading for a half under restraint. The track conditions were unfavorable to him and he is much the best in sloppy going. Horton was outrun to the stretch, where he made an unexpectedly bad showing. Dr. Bernays is not fit.
