EASTERN RACING DATES, Dates for the seasons meetings on the Jockey Club racecourses and the officials to act at them were arranged last Friday at a meeting of the stewards, held in the afternoon at the office of the chairman, August Belmont, 23 Nassau street. Those who attended were August Belmont, F. R. Hitchcock, Andrew Miller and H. K. Knapp. The Jockey Club officials for 1903 were elected as follows: August Belmont, chairman; J. R. Keeno, vice-chairman; F. K. Sturgis, secretary and treasurer. The racing officials appointed were: C. J. Fitzgerald, starter; C. McDowell, presiding judge; C. H. Pettingill, associate judge; H. G. Crickmore, clerk of the scales; W. H. Barretto, timer; J. L. Hall, paddock and patrol judge; W. S. Vosburgh, handicapper. The allotment of dates brings in the new Metropolitan course at Jamaica, with a spring, summer and fall meeting, and has forced a shake-up of the Brighton dates into a summer and fall meeting. The Aqueduct course begins its meetings on the usual dates, but some days are knocked off both in the spring and fall. The Brighton summer dates are also curtailed, but as a set-off it gets two weeks in October. The Brooklyn, Westchester and Coney Island meetings will be on approximately the same dates as last year and include the same legal holidays, and the Saratoga meeting will take in the month of August on the corresponding days of last year. Summer Monday, August 3, to Friday, August 28 It will probably be the last allotment of dates to the Westchester Racing Association and the vacancy caused by the falling out of the Morris Park course will be filled by the new course at Belmont Park, near Queens. The limit of time permitted in New York is divided for next season on a system that guarantees a succession of good meetings under more varied conditions than existed last year. The Washington Jockey Club will bring together the horses from the south and the early divisions of the northern stables on March 23 and the meeting will continue until the day before the Aqueduct meeting. The New York season closed last year on November 8 at Aqueduct, but this year it will last until November 14, at the Metropolitan course, the Washington fall meeting beginning two days later, Monday, November 16. and continuing to December 5. -
