SHEEPSHEAD BAY ENTRIES. The current Calender contains a full statement of the entries made in the stakes of tho Coney Island Jockey Club, which closed January 5. Up to date the total exceeds that of 1902 by 232 entries. While the majority of tho stakes are thus increased in value by reason of the big entry list, tho notable feature to tho racing public is the fact that the Suburban Handicap will probably bo worth over ,C00. When the amount of added money to the Suburban was made 0,000 it was estimated that the Suburban would approximate in valuo 7,500. Now the estimate runs up to 9,CC0, and may reach 9, 5C0. Besides the Suburban, both tho Brooklyn and Brighton handicaps, which were made 0.000 added money stakts, will also coma near tho 9,000 figure of tho Coney Island Jockey Club event, and it would not bo surprising to see these three handicaps pass the 0,003 mark in another season. Tho 9,000 estimate placed on tho Suburban by the Coney Island Jockey Clubs secretary is based on a probable list of starters of twelve or fifteen. That thero will bo this field appears to bo reasonable, considering the fact that there aro eighty-eight nominations. This is an increase of thirty over last season, when tho total was fifty-eight. j Tho Brooklyn has seventy-nine entries, as against fifty-nine, and tho Brighton eighty-three, as against forty-one, last season. Thus the three popular events are greatly enhanced in value as well as in general interest, and providing tho horses nominated como on and train well there is a good prospect that tho stakes will prove contests of merit far superior to those of late years. The list of nominations to tho Coney Island Jockey Club stakes given below shows that, with tho exception of ono or two two-year-old stakes, the entries to which were phenomenally large last season, all are greatly increased in number, the total to the several events being 2,816, as against 2,551 last year. The Great Trial of 5,000 just falls ono short of the showing in 1902, numbering 144. To the Futurity for 1935 there is a total of 1,161 nominations, thirty-three more than in 1902. The 0,000 Flatbush Stakes, probably the moBt important two-year-old stake to bo run at the Sheepshoad Bay autumn meeting, has a total of seventy-three nominations, nineteen more than last year, and the 0,000 Double Event has a total of 126, seven more than last year. The June Handicap nominations are increased from 74 to 114, forty more than last year. The entries received in 1902 and 1903 were as fol lows: Stakos. 1902. 1903.
