I REGISTRY AKD NAMING. Mr. J. E. Wheeler, Registrar of tho Stud Book calls the attention of breeders and owners to the following rules governing tho registry and naming of thoroughbreds : Rule 38. The office of The Jockey Club is designated as the Registry Office. The Registry Office is established for the purpose of the identification of all race horses, whether foaled in tho United States or in other countries, and tho certification of their pedigrees. Horses foaled in the United States or Canada must be registered with tho Registry Office by November 1 of the year in which they wero foaled. If proved to the satisfactipn of the Stewards of The Jockey Club that the failure of registration, bo unintentional or accidental, such registration may be permitted by the payment of a fine of 0 for the registration, provided such application be made on or before December 3i of each year. And if after said date upon the payment of a fine of 0 for each registration. The registration shall comprise the name, if any; the color and marks, if any; whether a horse, mars or. -.welding, and- tho. names of Ussirer- sad-dsiir.- H the dam was covered by more than one stallion, the names or descriptions in full must bo stated. Tho registration fee shall be for each animal, which will include certificate. Only horses are oligiblo for registry under this rule which have either five uncontaminated thoroughbred crosses, or which authentically trace shrough or to animals recorded in the first six volumes of tho American Stud Book, or in a recognized Stud Book of another country. Bulo 39. A name must be claimed through the Registry Office of The Jockey Club for each and every horse on or before March 1 of its two-year-old year. In case a horse is not named prior to March 1 of its two-year-old year, it may be duly named upon payment of a fine of 0, if name is claimed and allowed at least two days before day of starting. No name that has been employed during the previous five years, either in the stud or 6n tho turf, shall be duplicated, nor can a name be claimed for any horse not registered as a foal. N. B. No horso will be allowed to start unless duly registered and named. Rules 38 and 39 shall apply only to horses foaled in 1893 and thereafter. Rulo 40. An owner desiring to change the name of a horse must obtain special permission from tho Stewards of Tho Jockey Club, and shall pay the sum of 00 on each change of name to the Fine Fund. An owner may change tho name of a horse before March 1, of its two-year-old year, without special permission, upon payment of J10 to the Fine Fund. Rule 41 A horse foaled out of the United States or Canada shall not be qualified to start for any race until the owner has filed in the Rgistry Office a certificate stating age, color, sex, distinguishing marks, if any, and pedigree as recorded in the official stud book of its native country, signed by tho secretary or other public officer of a recognized racing club, or by some approved magistrate or public officer of tho country in which the horse was foaled, or has otherwise satisfied the stewards of The Jockey Club as to its identity and age, and has filed with The Jockey Club, after importation, a certificate of identification from a veterinarian. This registration must ba made at the Registry Office within sixty days after landing in this country, and the registration foe shall be for each animal, which will include certificate of registration. If it be proved to the satisfaction of the stewards of The Jockey Club that failure of regis-r tration be unintentional or accidental, such regis- tration may bo permitted by the payment of a fine of 5 if made within six 6 months after landing, and if after such time upon payment of 0 for each registration.
