NOTES FROM NASHVILLE. Nashville, Tenx., January 30, The waather this week at Nashville was "rainy und-iffi? dIenVei5ts wore against training operations. However, the covered track was used and horses were not allowed any let up. Enoch Wishard arrived at Cumberland Park Thursday from Hot Springs and took charge of his stable. W. H. Bissett, agent for the stable in the absence of Wishard, left Friday for his -home in Chicago, not, however, before carrying out John A. Drakes instructions to increase the wages of every man on the pay roll, from Chinese cooks on up to the foreman of the stable. Drake hires nothing but the best help and he pays them woll for their services. In consequanco there are few changes in the household, His men are all white, well dressed and well behaved. Already much speculation is being indulged in relative to the Derbys in tho west for this season. The Southern Turf and Climax, local poolrooms, will open future books on the American Derby, when entries are announced, tho Tennessee, Cumberland Park and Kentucky Derbys, Citizens and Montgomery Handicaps, when weights are announced. Both future books will have ample financial backing and tho booking will be on a liberal basis. The sprinter, Jim Clark, arrived at Cumberland Park, Thurskay, and joined the Gorman and Bauer string. A bill prohibiting tho running of pool rooms in Tennessee has been introduced in the Tennessee Legislature, which is now in session. There is a state law against pool rooms which is not observed in Tennessee, as two are running in full blast at ; Nashville, ono at Chattanooga, one at Knoxville i and one at Memphis. This new bill makes the running of pool rooms an offense punishable by a fine i of from 00 to and imprisonment from two to i five years in the penitentiary. It is believed this i will become a law, although a strong offort will be i made to defeat it. From a private letter received yesterday from S. C. Wagner, who recently leased the Windsor track, information was given out that racing will bo had nearly all the Bummer around Detroit. Windsor will open thirty days before the Campau meeting. After the Grosse Pointe meeting, Highland Park : will take up the running and then Windsor will I run an extended meeting, running well up into tho fall. Some 400 new stalls will be built at Windsor and the street car service will be improved.
