GOSSIP OP THE TURF. E. Trotter, ownir of the big sprinter Scorpio and othar race horses, met with a painful and sorious injury several days ago at New Orleans. He was looking ovor the thrse-year-old Captain Hugh Bradlay in front of his stable. The colt, which was fssling good, reared up in the air and on coming down one of his hoofs caught Mr. Trottor sqnaroly on the right side of his face. His cheak was laid open and frightfully lacerated. It swellod up so badly that the extent of the injury could not at once bo determined and it was thought that his jaw wa3 broken. The attending physician, however, gave it as his opinion, after the swelling had subsided, that the. jaw was not broken and that, unless blood poisoning should develop, the unfortunate horseman would get along all right, though it is not likoly that heSwilUtscape without a scar as a reminder of his narrow oscape from a broken jaw or something worse. E. 8. Gardner, proprietor of the Avondalo Farm, of Sumner County, Tenn., has engaged training quarters in Cumbarland Park for his ontiro string. Gardner has ten two-year-olds and two three-year-olds, all engaged in the stakes at Nashville. Among them are : Patter, b. c, by Masetto Porcelain. Moulin Bouge, b. f, by Himyar Monte Bosa. Folies Bergeres, b. f, by Himyar Frogmore. Scalper, br. c, by Quicklime Soubrette II. Pipe Dreams, b. f, by Loyalist Penitence II. Marquis de Carabas, b. c, by Himyar Fife. Atlas, b. f, by Huron Armiel. Exicnla, b. f, by King Eric Ursula. Epris, b. c, by Eon Eastre. Venetzia, b. f, by Masetto Venice. Besides the above two-year-olds Mr. Gardner has Frappe and Vestry, both three-year-olds. The following foals have been reported : At Cas tleton Stud, the property of J. B. and F. P. Keene, a chestnut filly, by Horoscope Dusk, she by Chorister. Chestnut colt, by Horoscope Yentnor, she by Egmont. Brown colt, by Commando Ben My Chrse, she by Galopin. At Hamburg Place, the property of J. E. Madden, a brown filly by Ogden Belle of Holmdel, ihe by His Highness. At Elmen-dorf, the property of J. B. Haggin, a bay colt, by Juvenal Hallelujah, she by Martenhurst.
