Hipponax raced in the first flight throughout and gamely wore the pacemakers down in in the last quarter under a vigorous ride. Rud Hynicka made up ground and finished going fast. Jennie Hughes displayed the most early speed but failed to stay when challenged. Pupil ran as if short and can beat this kind when fit. Lone Fisherman raced better with an improved track and is about due over a longer distance. Inaugurator, nearly left, closed a gap. Scratched 37291 El Piloto, 103; 37121 Dora I., 97. Lady Laurie, away poorly, closed a gap in the first quarter and finished going fast and ran in greatly improved form. Libbie Candid beat the barrier but did not last long and was a lucky third. Silver Fizz forced the pace throughout and under a skilfull ride showed- improved speed and stamina. Greyfeld ran a game race, was lucky and had clear sailing, finished fast but was swerving at the end. Phil Archibald was a lucky third, due to Bullmans vigorous finish. Expedient, interfered with at the first turn and badly handled, finished with his usual rush and may have been a trifle short. Filibuster went unexpectedly well. Imperious tired in the last quarter. Kenilworth, lucky and skillfully ridden, waited on Beau Ormonde to the stretch where he went to the front and was apparently winning easily but was put to a mild drive at the end to beat Beau Ormonde. The latter, away running, forced a terrific pace to the stretch, where he suddenly fell away but came again like a flash right at the end and is in fine form at present. Gravina ran a game race and finished fast through the last quarter. Ethylene went well throughout. Princess Titariia collided with Bragg at the start but quickly recovered, and waited on the pacemakers hard held to the stretch where she unexpectedly failed to come on and ran as if short or handicapped by the cuppy going. Won in a- canter; second driving. Rag Tag, suddenly improved, indulged the pacemakers to the stretch where he went to the front hard held and was much the best. Gibraltar improved his position throughout and finished unexpectedly gamely. Parsifal closed up a big gap in the last half and was coming fast at the end. Saul of Tarsus is steadily improving and held on well throughout. Shellmount was lucky and had no mishaps, but ran only moderately well. Sharp Bird was probably short. Saintly, away poorly, made up considerable ground. E. M. Brattain displayed early speed but is a non-stayer. Winner Ch. g, by Flambeau Experiment trained by P. E. Smith. Went to post at 4:25. At post 3 minutes. Start straggling. Won driving; second the same. Golden Light was lucky at the start, fell in behind pacemakers to the stretch, where he closed up fast after saving ground on the turn and was lucky to win. Meehanus was carried hopelessly wide on the stretch turn and failed in an effort to come through on the inside, then went around and just failed to get up. Little Margaret got away badly and displayed superior speed in taking an early lead, but was badly ridden and excessively used, and this combined with a very wide stretch turn beat her. Golden Cottage was prominent throughout and ran a good race. Stunts failed to stay. Scratched 37295Ed Lilburn, 97; 37380 Quartre, 90. Golden Light, show, 4 to 5. Meehanus, show, 1 to 4.
