Brattain spreadeagled the field and was only cantering at the end. Golden Light raced well under a lethargic ride, waited with very long and gained ten lengths on the leader when called on in the last quarter. Gibraltar, interfered with at the start, came along fast in the stretch and caught Mike Murphy tiring. Rose of Hilo was badly ridden. Mike Murphy went a fast five furlongs and quit. The Mighty beat the barrier and made the most -of his advantage, and Shaw outfinished Waldo at the end. Annie Marie was best, but lost so much ground in the early stages that although closing up fast she could never get up. Pachuca closed up a big gap from a bad start and ran a useful race. Cotati was outrun in the early stages and had no chance with a bad ride, but was closing up fast in the last quarter. Tannhauser is evidently only moderate. Overweights Tannhauser, 2 pounds. Diamante, away badly, displayed superior speed and stamina in overhauling and passing Puss in Boots at the end after a long and apparently hopeless drive. The latter is very fast and quickly opened up a tremendous lead on the field, but tired at the end and finished swerving and without any assistance from her jockey. Tommy Knight was hopelessly 1 pocketed in the first half, but finished with a rush. Loyal S. was under pressure throughout. Intrepido went well and was favored by the soft going. Claude was lucky, ran third under restraint to the far turn, where he forged into the lead after a brush with Epicure, finished out the last quarter fast and won with something in reserve. Gold Van trailed for the first mile and put up a brilliant stretch run at the weights. Epicure, very unruly and under a chpking pull, was forced to make the running and that beat him. He stuck to his work very gamely and ran like a really good horse. Durazzo retired after performing his mission as pacemaker, which was of short duration and on sufferance. Dupont trailed far back and made a good effort in the last quarter, but was outclassed. Gold Bell broke down early. Scratched 37430 Elliott, 129; 37553 Krishna, 127; 37498 Fossil, 114; 34219 Frank Bullock, 110. Claude, show, 2 to 5. The entry, show, out. Epicure, show, 1 to 4. Kenilworth was allowed to make the running at a comparatively slow pace while the other two were waiting behind him and being skillfully nursed by Shaw, he just lasted long enough to beat the badly mismanaged Cunard. The latter laid away too long and although inadequately ridden he closed up like a flash in the stretch, but failed to get up and was the best. Waiting tactics on Yellow Tail worked disastrously as Bullman choked all the speed out of him in the first quarter. Scratched 37616 Grail, 96. Strand SIXTH RACE 1 Mile and 50 Yards. Ben Mac Dhui led unextended throughout and was apparentlv much the best. Royalty followed the winners pace closely and gamely saved second place after a long stretch drive. Antolee came fast at the end. Diderot went in improved form. Rose of May and Milas had their chances of winning destroyed on the first turn, where both were crowded into the fence.
