GOSSIP OF THE TURF. W. C" Whitney has been very fortunate so far at his La Belle Stud. His one hundred head of broodmares and grand array of stallions have wintered well. There have been quite a number of foals at the farm so far, and the majority of the youngstres are colts. Because of the withdrawals of all of the horses that had received more weight than him, Conroy II., owned by Foxhall P. Keene, is top-weight in the City and Suburban Handicap. The winner of the Brooklyn Handicap in 1901 will carry 126 pounds, the English rules providing that in case the highest weight accepting is not 126 pounds, the impost of the highest accepting weight shall be raised to 126.
