GOSSIP OF THE TURF. T. Magee has shipped LEtrenne and Ar- tena to Mr. Corrigans farm, near Lexington. LEtrenne will be bred to Marta Santa, a son of Don Castro,, and Artena will be bred 1 to Scintillant II. Planudes and Corbletts Bay will also go to the farm. Planudes is a son of St. Simon, that Mr. Corrigan thinks highly of. He will be bred liberally this season. With the lot, Albert Simons sent his three-year-old mare, Lady Sterling, to be turned out, and W. Roller shipped Lennep, to be bred to one of the Corrigan horses. It is doubtful whether LEtrenne will be raced again, but Artena may be put in ti-aining later in the season. . The great race mare Senorita, owned by S. S. Brown, and for which the Pittsburg coal kings Kentucky stud farm is named, is believed to be safe in foal this year to Wools-thrope. Senorita was barren last year, and her filly foal by Ben Brush, which would now be a two-year-old, died as a suckling, so in recent years Brown has had none too good luck with this famous daughter of Prince Charlie. She is in perfect health, and in looks is not surpassed by any brood mare in this country. Senorita is the same age as J. B. Haggins Salvator. The horses of T. C. McDowell, at Ashland Stud, Lexington, are being given daily workouts, and are showing well. Allan-a-Dale, last years Kentucky Derby winner, has wintered well, and his owner has no doubt but he will stand training the coming season, and that he will be a factor in all the big western handicaps. He does not show any signs of the lameness that made his early retirement from the turf necessary last year. Mr. McDowell has great faith in Allan-a-Dale as a sire, and during his short stud season this year he stood to his two famous broodmares Bracegirdle and Countess Irma. The veteran turfman and breeder, Major G. B. Thomas, has four very promising two-year-olds this season, which he has placed in the hands of Frank A. Jones, the late trainer for George H. Whitney, at Sheepshead Bay. They are: Jim Kelly, b. c, by Dr. MacBride Alabama; Bridesflight, ch. f, by Dr. Mac-Bride Highfiight; Addie Mills, ch. f, by Farandole- Happy Hour, and Charles Fisher, b. g, by Longflight Miss Lexington.
