Winner B. c, by Russell Fancy Remnant trained by J. P. Fitzgerald. Went to post at 2:05. At post 3 minutes. Start fair. Won easily; second driving. Lansdown, suddenly improved, was lucky and had clear sailing, caught the leaders tiring in the stretch and finished going away. Nellie Hawthorne closed up much ground from a poor start under a vigorous finish. Alice Cary ran as if short and tired badly after a fast brush with Lady Gallantry. The latter forced the pace to the stretch, where she tired under a weak finish. Midlove was prominent throughout and should give a good account of herself later on. Horatius was wearing the leaders down in the last furlong, but did not run his race. Scratched 37673M. F. Tarpey, 118; 37462 Educate, 106; 376373Honeysuckle, 101. Winner Br. h, by Watercress Lizzie Hampton trained by G. Miller. Went to post at 2:33. At post 3 minutes. Start fair. Won in a canter; second easily. Sir Hampton got away in his stride and led unextended throughout. He is evidently in good form and far outclassed the field. Alado, crowded back at the half, closed up very fast and is a genuinely improved horse. David S. gave evidence of soreness before the race, but followed the winners pace closely for the first half and fell away in the final drive. Light Ball found the pace too fast. Oriana got away poorly and was always outrun. Scratched 37613 Irma A., 102. Overweights Oriana, 5 pounds; The Hoodoo, 3. Sir Hampton, show, 1 to 4. Alado, show, 6 to 5. David S., show, 2 to 5. Winner Br. c, by St. George Sallie McAllister trained by T. G. Ferguson. Went to post at 3:00. At post 6 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Bearcatcher won as if he outclassed the field, came away in the first sixteenth as if the other two were anchored and finished out with plenty in reserve. Cascine was as easily second best and put up a game but unavailing effort to beat the winner and is far above the average, with preference for a longer route. Knobhampton, which has recently worked fast, was crowded and outrun after going a good furlong and tired badly under a whipping finish. FOURTH RACE 1 Mile. Winner B. c, by Darebin Felukah trained by C. W. Carroll. Went to post at 3:29. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won easily; second driving. Epicure received a poor start, but raced into a good position behind the pacemakers and moved up like a flash on the stretch turn and passed them as if they were anchored in the stretch, winning with plenty in reserve. He is a high class colt. Yellow Tail forced a fast pace for seven furlongs and held on unexpectedly well in a driving finish. Leader went hopelessly wide on the stretch turn after trailing the field for the first six furlongs, arid under a very bad ride swerved to the outside fence in the last furlong. Kenilworth was simply up against it at the weights and distance and retired after following the pace closely for six furlongs and was eased up at the end. Epicure, show, out. Expedient ran well, but scored a lucky victory due to the slow pace, aided by Burns vigorous finish. Autolight appeared like winning easily in the stretch and was best, but received a bad looking ride and weak finish. Royalty, ridden with bad judgment, trailed for a half and went into the lead in a few strides, making a wide turn, but was outsprinted in the last quarter under a bad ride. Dagmar made the running for half the journey on sufferance and finished close up, which makes the race a bad one. Colonel Ballantyne favors soft going and is out of form. St. Sever recovered good form suddenly, was reserved within striking distance for six furlongs, made good with a fast stretch run and won going away, and is a much improved horse. Constellator forced the pace hard held to the stretch, where he failed to stay. Antolee helped to beat the favorite and tired herself after racing a good six furlongs. Illo-waho ran a bad race and retired at the half. Scratched 37639Meehanus, 110. Overweights St. Sever, 1 pound; Antolee, 2; Constellator, 2. St. Sever, show, 3 to 5. Constellator, show, out.
