Annie Marie, lucky at the start and with clear sailing, forced the pace throughout and ran a game race. Young Pepper raced with the winner the entire distance and but for swerving at the end would have won. Sofita was pinned in on the rail in the last furlong and was going strongest of all at the end. Sweet Tone worked a rough journey and was hopelessly pocketed and compelled to pull up when coming fast in the last sixteenth and was best. Miss Ringlets made up ground from a poor start, but ran very sore. Bombardier was forced out of position early. Pachuca had no chance at the start. Scratched 37699 Juana, 103. Alice Cary, off well and favored by the waiting tactics of the pacemakers which forced a terrific pace, caught them tiring in the last furlong and won going away. Lizzie Rice followed the tremendous pace closely and took the lead when straightened for the wire, but was tiring rapidly in the last furlong. Naulahka, away slowly, closed a big gap and finished with a rush. Modicum, heavv headed and away badly, ran an extra good race. He ran away six furlongs before the start and made an unexpectedly fine showing. Quartre and Gus Lanka closed steadily from a bad start. Mocorito, in rare form, won through Stuarts good judgment, followed Deutschlands pace closely and just got up in the last stride on the outside in the good going. Deutschland, away poorly, made the running at a fast pace and was swerving all over the stretch, but stuck to his work gamely and is a genuinely improved horse. Nigrette was forced out of position in the first eighth and trailed the leaders to the stretch where she was allowed to swerve from the extreme outside into the deep going on the rail and stumbling at the end was unlucky to lose. Won easily; second the same-Forest King, the medium of a coup, was hard held all the way. He indulged David S. with the lead for six furlongs, then went to the front, cantering the last quarter. David S. ran an unexpectedly fast and game race and stuck to his work courageously at the end. Silver Fizz, always well up, outstayed the others. Canejo journeyed throughout in the deep going on the rail and, after looking dangerous a furlong out. tired almost to a walk. She can do much better. Rosarie went well throughout. Action received a good start, was skillfully ridden, forced the pace with plenty in reserve came away fast in the last quarter and won going away. Horatius. away poorly and shut off on the first turn, closed a big gap. He was on the extreme outside throughout arid finished with a rush and, but for interference in the last fifty yards, might have won. James F. was lucky, waited in behind the pacemakers and finished out a good last quarter but was swerving at the end. Impetuous, in the deep going, tired at the end of six furlongs and was probably not keyed up for so long a journey. Byronerdale. after displaying unusual speed for seven furlongs, unexpectedly collapsed and probably sulked. He is strictly a mudlark Action, show, 1 to 5. Horatius, show, out.
