Pupil, lucky and skillfully handled, was reserved to the stretch where he closed up with a rush and won going away. Mildred Schultz, away badly, quickly closed up a trmendous gap and appeared like winning a furlong out, but excessive early use tired her in the final drive. Erema forced a fast pace and tired in the last furlong. Idogo was crowded out at the start, but made up fifteen lengths on the leaders in the last three furlongs. Bogus Bill tired in the stretch run. Evander, all but left, closed up an immense gap and was pulled up in the last fifty yards.and could have been closer up. Mai-ineuse had no chance at the start, but steadily improved his position and ran a great race. Scratched 24539 Espirando, 108; 377823Jennie Hughes, 102; 37712 Montana Peeress, 97. Start bad. Won easily; second driving. H. L. Frank worked into the lead after a rough journey, finished fast and was going away at the end. Tannhauser closed up a gap from a bad start and finished fast. Padua was prominent throughout and finished gamely. Whoa Bill made a promising debut. Charlie Schweiser ran in improved form. Gypsy Ben was eased up at the end and is probably a good one over a longer distance. Cayucos displayed much early speed. Sir Appleby broke and ran green, is a fine looker and can do much better. San Francisquito was left at the post, but finished up in the bunch and is a supposed crackerjack. Scratched 37711 Emil, 112. Overweights Padua, 1 pound; Charlie Schweiser, 3. H. L. El Piloto, lucky and skillfully reserved to the stretch, made good in game fashion, scoring in the last stride. Choteau traversed the deep going throughout and that beat him. Arthur Ray displayed superior speed, but failed to stay and was particularly favored by the going. I. O. U., under a weak and inefficient ride, closed up a big gap in the last half and was going fastest of all at the end. Belle Street, nearly left, raced into a contending position in the first half. Deutschland made the running hard held to the stretch where he came away like a flash and won pulling up was much the best. Nigrette ran a game race after a hard arly effort to beat the winner. Beau Ormonde closed up with a rush in the last furlong, after apparently sulking for the first half. Mocorito fell away after a good five furlongs. Americano, evidently short, appears in good form and should improve. Deutschland pulled up very lame. Bonnie Lissak, skillfully ridden and lucky, waited on the pacemakers to the stretch where she outstayed the others after a long drive. Filibuster forced the pace throughout and ran the best race of his career. Goldone broke a saddle girth early in the race, ran throughout the race under a choking pull and was much the best, his jockey with difficulty sticking on. Lode Star moved up fast on the far turn and appeared dangerous when straightened out in the stretch run, but tired badly. Frank Woods was unable to stride freely in the going, but ran well for six furlongs. Castake tired after going a good seven furlongs. Lode Star was claimed out of the race by C. McCafferty.
