NOTES OF THE TURF. Declarations from the Hawthorne Handicap are due April 1. Secretary Kuhl reports that up to date the horses declared out are St. Marcos, Lord Quex, Flying Torpedo, Vul-cain and The Unknown. It was reported some time back that St. Marcos would stand training this year, but his declaration from such a rich stake is an unfavorable indication. Twenty-five thoroughbreds from Capt. S. S. Browns string left Louisville Monday night for New Tork, via the Pennsylvania Railroad. They will be raced in the east in charge of Peter Wimmer.the veteran trainer. The string includes Hyphen, the crack four-year-old, and twenty two-year-olds. Hyphens legs are in bad shape, but Mr. "Wim-mer believes he will train out all right. D. The handicapping of the horses engaged in the 0,000 Worlds Fair Handicap at St. Louis is to be a double headed transaction. W. S. Vosburg is to assign weights to the eastern owned entries while Edward Maginn will give the western horses their impost. Col. M. C. Padden, probably acting for Congressman T. D. Sullivan, has purchased a half interest in the three-year-olds Athlana and Alan, from Frank Kelly, the partnership to be registered with The Jockey Club. ; i W. C.
