Marineuse, from a poor start, gradually worked his way through the large field, forging into a safe lead in the last furlong, won going away and was much the best today. Bassenzo, from a lucky start, made the running in deep going and seemed like a sure winner when straightened, but tired in the final drive and was probably short. Lou Clleveden went well throughout. Educate fell away on the stretch turn and was coming again at the end. Mis- siler was prominent for five furlongs. Ragnarok II. showed a sudden return of speed. Propeller got away poorly. Whoa Bill covered much unnecessary ground on the extreme outside, but traversed the best going and had clear sailing, finished with a rush through the last quarter and is evidently above average class. Padua showed a fine performance arid raced head and head with the winner from start to finish. Tahnhauser was badly interfered with early and came from behind like a flash at the end. The Hawaiian was prominent throughout and shows steady improvement. Quaker Girl forced the pace from a lucky start, but was tiring in the last furlong. Ravelena was eased up when beaten in the last sixteenth, suffered from crowding and pocketing and had no chance. The Mighty ran poorly. Libbie Candid quit. Overweights Padua, 1 pound. Start fair. Won easily; second driving. Sol Lichtenstein indulged Dotterel for the first quarter, after which he drew to the front cantering and was much the best. Dotterel was a prominent contender throughout and was particularly favored by the going. Somenos was crowded back early and closed a gap in the last half and is evidently best in mud. Onyx II. is improving with each race and finished going fast. Quartre ran as if short, was forced into the bad going and was swerving in the last furlong. ,Pat Morrissey ran in deep going from start to finish and was easing up in the last sixteenth. He was a good horse very badly ridden. Pupil ran a bad race. Scratched 37957 San Lution, 104; 37976 J. H. Won handily; second easily Grail got away in the lead, was skillfully reserved for six furlongs while waiting on Nig-rette and outsprinted her through the stretch. The latter, suddenly improved forced a good strong pace and held on gamely in a long final drive. Forest King was in the deep going throughout, ran a consistent good race and finished with something in reserve Or-sina, unable to stride freely in the going, fell away after going a good six furlongs Grand Sachem was outclassed, but speedy for the first half.
