Legal Maxim, suddenly improved, followed the pacemaker closely to the stretch where he forged to the front without urging and was much the best. Missile ran well and closed up with a rush at the end. Propeller ran to his best form. Cherries, away in front, led by a wide and apparently winning margin, but tired in the stretch run. G. W. Trahern ran well enough to win in such company. Won driving; second easily. Ravelena, evidently training off, secured a lucky start and made the most of the advantage, but was unexpectedly driving to the utmost to hold her own at the end. Emil beat the barrier and ran in surprisingly improved form, fell away on the turn and closed up like a whirlwind in the last furlong. The Mighty lost several lengths by a wide stretch turn and finished fast. Tannhauser, away fiatfooted, worked into prominence in the worst going and tired at the end. A. Cotton. Went to post at 3:04.- At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second easily-Star Cotton secured a lucky start, is a genuinely improved horse, maintained a good position throughout and outstayed Blessed Damozel after a long stretch drive. The latter injudiciously forced the pace from the start and that beat her. She favors a longer distance any way. Mission ran well, but was tiring badly at the end. Essence was crowded at the start, worked a rough journey and after being hopelessly carried Out at the stretch turn was running faster than the leaders at the end. Ulloa was badly interfered with on the far turn-, but was beaten at the time and ran a dull race. Spindle fell away in the final sprint. Overweights Ulloa, 1 pound. Star Cotton, show, 5 to 1. Onyx n. got off to an indifferent start, but came like a flash from a rear position on the far turn and downed the favorite after a long and terrific stretch drive. The Major was probably unlucky to force the pace and was not quite keyed up. Somenos was poorly ridden, but fought it out at the end gamely. Byronerdale got away poorly and closed a gap and but for swerving at the end would have been third. Andrew Ring wants a longer route, made up much ground and finished fast. Adirondack went a fast half. Polonius is out of place in sprints. Guida was a sharp contender for five furlongs. Bassenzo, from a good start, made the running throughout, drew away decisively when straightened for the wire in the last quarter and was much the best. Maraschino is in great form, closed a great gap from a bad start and finished like a whirlwind. Sugden is strictly a mudlark and tired in the last sixteenth. Arthur Ray held on in improved fashion. Won driving; second easily Orsina was lucky at the start and skillfully reserved to the stretch where she ran by th4 pacemaker as if he was anchored and appeared an easy winner, but right at the end was mildly ridden to beat Leader. The latter got away badly and went hopelessly wide on all turns, but was closing a tremendous gap finishing with a rush and must have been far the best.
