Padua, away well and with clear sailing, raced fast around the turns, but was carried out, then closed up very gamely under a whipping finish and won going away. H. L. Frank received a lucky start and journeyed next to the rail throughout, taking an Apparent winning lead in the stretch, but being badly ridden he swerved into final defeat. Dr. Rowell was crowded into the fence in the stretch by the winner and effectually stopped. Quaker Girl beat the barrier and made the most of her advantage, tiring unexpectedly in the last furlong. After getting away very badly he moved up, easily picking up his field in the first half, cantering home thereafter. Dark Secret was a good horse today, poorly ridden and can win races when placed right. Monda also showed improved form. The others are very bad racers. Scratched 38231 Poorlands, 152. Epicure, sore in his preliminary and lame after the race, received a lucky start, closely attended the pacemaker throughout and forged into the lead when called on in the stretch for a final effort. Water Cure, away in his stride, developed unexpected speed and stamina, was a sharp contender and in the first flight throughout. A close stretch turn left him momentarily with the lead when a furlong out, but he succumbed in the final drive to the winner. Autolight, crowded at the start and last on the first turn, closed a big gap after being badly messed about on the far turn. Mocorito ran a fast and game race. Peter J. made the running for six furlongs, hard held, and failed to stay. Constellator showed good early speed only. Scratched 38233 Grafter, 108; 383322Grail, 99; 383022Divina, 99. Warte Nicht got away in his stride, displayed brilliant early speed, indulged Mexicana with the lead to the stretch, wearing her down with great ease in the last quarter and is a greatly improved colt. Mexicana ran a fast and game race and was the only serious contender Hainault was given a poor start and closed up ground throughout, but lacked his well known speed and is evidently stale. Shellmount went well at the weights. So did El Chihuahua. Jim Hale is a notorious in and outer and ran a very bad race. Clausus probably short, can do better and was prominent for six furlongs. Ignacio secured a lucky start, but trailed his field, moved up like a flash on the far turn and saving ground was going very fast at the end. He is a good horse and outclassed the field. Oriana, away slowly and carried wide on the first turn, ran a" surprisingly good race and finished like a whirlwind. Kittie Kelly forced the pace for seven furlongs and held on gamely in the final drive, but is a non-stayer. Tizona ran in suddenly improved form. Rose i of May went a good six furlongs and is worth remembering. El Rio Shannon was crowded A at the start and generally messed about under a bad ride. M Scratched 38301 Sleeping Child, 103.
