Vestry .ran Stand Pat into submission in the first half and came away from the others with ease. Discus made up much ground after being cut off on the backstretch and was coming very fast at the end. Mafalda and Miss Crawford fought it out sharply all through the last three furlongs and the former got the verdict by the narrowest of margins. With a stronger rider up, however, Mafaldas victory would have been more decisive. Miss Crawford was speedy and hung on gamely. Emperor of India closed up fast in the stretch run. Bargee wore down Flaneur in the homestretch and was going away at the finish. Flaneur showed the most speed, but tired at the end from setting a hot pace. Presgrave was cut off at the start, but made up much ground and finished going fast. There was considerable crowding at the first turn and Cast Iron was badly cut off. Paris showed the most speed and would have won with something to spare had Crowhurst persevered with him. Wenrick ran his best race. Tennessean ran well, but tired in the last sixteenth.
