Ben Howard came fast on the stretch turn and Michaels saved a lot of ground by getting through next to the rail and had plenty to spare at the end. Armeath was crowded right after the start, but handled his weight well and closed up fast once Hoar got clear sailing Taps made up ground in the stretch. There was a lot of bumping on the stretch turn from which Mamari, Carroll D. and Schoharie suffered and their chances were destroyed. Mamari showed far more speed than usual. Scratched— 386722Tim D. Miss Nancy saved ground on the stretch turn and only tired in the last hundred yards. Silver Dream ran a good race, but could not quite last the route at the pace. Termagant quit badly on the turn. McGonigle was tangled up at the start. Moorhen and St. Roche hung in the barrier and were practically left at the post. Scratched— 38704 Australina, 105; 38646 Dixie Paradise, 96. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Yellow Tails performance was a good one. He handled his weight in good style and showing plenty of speed wore down Injunction in the stretch under a hand ride. His race was the best he has yet shown here. Injunction forced the pace, but could not quite last the route and was tiring fast at the end. Africander closed up very fast in the final drive. He was shut out twice and would have been a keener contender if he had got through on the stretch turn. Heno ran a good race and stood a long drive to get up. Rightful ran as if a shade outclassed. Andy Williams was overweighted in this company. Yellow Tail, show, 3 to 1. Injunction, show, 2 to 5. Africander, show, out. Mordella was slowest of the three to break and was outrun early, but closed up on the stretch turn under a hard drive, caught Cyprienne tiring in the final furlong and was going away at the end. Cyprienne was used up racing with Petunia and she had nothing left when Mordella challenged. Petunia got off well in motion and had a fighting chance to win on the stretch turn when her saddle slipped and Odom was nearly unseated.
