Esherson broke well in motion, showed much improved speed, ran away from his field in the first quarter and was never in trouble. Walnut Hill did his best and stood a long stretch drive gamely. Play Ball made a promising debut, finished fast and would have been second in another stride. Langford James broke in front, but quickly dropped out of contention and did not run his race. Monsieur Beaucaire displayed fine speed throughout, stalled off challenges from Hargis and Kentucky Cardinal in the first half and fought it out gamely with Bummer IL in the last quarter, Booker outriding Schilling in the final drive. Bummer n. ran a good race and would have won with jockeys reversed. Hargis came again at the end after being bumped into by Kentucky Cardinal at the eighth post. Lem Reed closed a big gap in the first half and then quit. Bard of Avon was given an easy ride. Jiminez ran well for a half and tired badly. Bean had a rough trip, was in a pocket while going down the backstretch and was cut off at the far turn. Booker had to pull up and go all around his field to get up. She made up ground on the turn and fought it out with Lombre all through the last furlong. Lombre ran a good race, was wearing Bean down and would have won in another stride. Caxton showed speed, but tired as if short. He is a good looker and the race is sure to Improve him. Bud Embry ran poorly and was weakly ridden. Phelan had every advantage, was off well in motion and showed the most early speed, but tired wheh under strong pressure. Cardona was shut off at the far turn and came fast when straightened out in the homestretch. Lutes Fonso was in a pocket for the first half, found an opening at the far turn and shot through on the outside, came around the leaders at the turn into the homestretch and out-gamed Pepper Dick in the final drive. The latter was used up in chasing Hurry and would have won had Booker avoided the early pace. Boomerack tired when called on, but ran a good race. Mandamus was crowded back at the start. Aimless caught The Stewardess tiring in the stretch run and came away with a rush at the end. Emir ran well, but lost a lot of ground by coming wide into the homestretch and would have won with a good ride. Wine Sap appeared to tire and then came again at the end. The Stewardess was made too much use of and tired. Winkfield was riding Peat hard all the way. Presgrave had no mishaps. Chickasha was eased up in the last eighth.
