1 ] - j 1 , - ■ ■ ■ , , | ■ : NOTES OF THE TURF. E. R. Thomas has named St. "Valentine, Dimple and "Vagary as his entries for the j Saratoga Special. He purchased the trio : from John E. Madden, who also trains them. j Dimple is finely bred, being by Mirthful— Myrtle Harkness, and is a full sister to Ace-full. Dimple is entered in the English Oaks for next year. The second set of the Madden string went once over the hill doing routine work. Since the opening of the New York season the success of Frank Farrells stable has created much favorable comment, and has also reflected 4 much credit upon trainer Frank Weir, who wintered the Farrell horses at Gloucester, N. J. So far Mr. Farrells colors have been carried to the front by The Musketeer, The Guardsman, Armeath, Colonist, Nameoki, Mimon and Duelist, with Blues, Calcutta, King Pepper, Silurian, Minotaur, Andrew Mack and Tim Sullivan yet to be heard from. Mr. Farrell has a good jockey in Hoar, who is cool-headed, quick in getting away from the post and a strong finisher. E. Corrigan lost by death Monday morning a two-year-old chestnut colt by St. Florian, out of the dam of Satsuma. He had worked well before being taken sick, and his stable was very sweet on him. Messrs. E. Corrigan and John E. Madden have leased the Douglass Park trotting track, near Louisville. These two turfmen have so many youngsters to break and develop during the coming summer that it was found necessary to lease a private training ground. Douglass Park is admirably adapted for the purpose. Amos Turney will give Glen Water, the St. Louis Inaugural winner, a special preparation for the Suburban Handicap. Glen Water is one of the best handicap horses in training on the western circuit. Mr. Turney has been asked to put a price on this horse by one of the most prominent owners in the east. The horses chances of winning the Suburban ap-■ pear to be so promising that his sale is generally predicted.— St. Louis Republic. Barney Schreibers bad luck continues. He lost his promising three-year-old Seize by death last week. The colt had been ailing for a week or so. Seize was a useful colt last year. He ran some good races at the Fair Grounds and Delmar. Mr. Schreiber bought the colt last fall for a fancy price from his old trainer Dick Williams.
