Lux Casta was lucky at the start and under skillful handling maintained a good position in behind the fast pacemakers to the stretch, where she caught them tiring taking a safe lead in the last furlong, but was unexpectedly driving hard right at the end to beat the fast coming Royal. The latter, away last, worked a hazardous journey into clear sailing in the last Quarter and finished with a rush and ran a great race. Olympian practically made the running for five furlongs and in spite of slight crowding at the end put up a game final effort. He looked somewhat high in flesh and should give an extra good account of himself later on. Extinguisher closed a big gap in the last half and finished like a whirlwind. Waswift was a dangerous contender in the stretch, where he was seriously interfered with. Wealth was improving and running on at the end. Himself was shut off at the start and steadily improved his position. Lady Uncas was crowded and fell away in the last fifty yards when a contender and was pulled up to a walk. Scratched— 35740 Knight of Harlem, 87; 38856 Duelist, 96; 38902New York, 113. Overweights — Demurrer, 3 pounds. The entry, show, 1 to 3. Royal, show, 3 to 1. Olympian, show, 6 to 5. Winner — Ch. f, by Hastings — Lady Rosemary trained by J. Boden. Went to post at 4:25. At post 6 minutes. Start bad. Won easily; second the same. Rosetint cut up badly at the post, eventually getting a running start. She was skillfully restrained behind the pacemaker Futurita to the stretch, where she showed a fine burst of speed and made good in decisive fashion. Futurita made the running at a fast clip for half the journey and gamely held her own in the straight for another furlong. Torchlights being lucky In getting away probably saved her third money, but at that she ran a fast and game race. Nun was nearly left and made up ground throughout, finished going fast and is worth remembering. Lady Sarah, on her looks, promises much better things. Scratched— 35790Leonora Loring, 116; 38905Lux Casta, 116; 35904 Wild Thyme, 113; 38355Semper Vivum, 98; 38833 Rene, 98; 38525 Anticipation, 93. Overweights — Rosetint, 4 pounds; Athlana, 4. Winner — Ch. c, by Mirthful — Llandrinio trained by E. Healy. Went to post at 4:55. At post 2 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second the same. Mexican has trained on into a high-class three-year-old. He is a fast beginner and Burns with difficulty restrained him back to his field while going up the hill, but when rounding the stretch turn the field gained on him suddenly in a terrific drive home. The winner appeared beaten, but drew out in remarkably game fashion in the last furlong and won in true racehorse style. Zoroaster displayed unexpected speed on the turn and sustained it with his usual bull dog tenacity in the stretch. River Pirate was inadequately handled and was crowded at a critical point, but when with clear sailing on the outside he put up a first-class stretch run and was going fastest of all at the end and was probably unlucky to lose. Bon-nibert, after trailing his field for six furlongs, came with a rush in the stretch. Flying Buttress went hopelessly wide on the turns, but showed superior speed for seven furlongs. Knight of Harlem went a fast seven furlongs and will be heard from. Colonel Bill is evidently not yet in condition to show his true form.
