At post 4 minutes. - Start straggling. "Won drivjngrseconct easily. ■• , Akela was lucky throughout, raced into the lead when straightened for Home and gamely held her advantage to the end. Stolen Moments, probably a good filly, was best. Away badly, she worked into the lead and was easing up slightly and Gannon was caught napping, but quickly got to work again and was fast wearing the winner down and but for being pinned in next to the rail would have scored handily. Nine Spot beat the barrier and made the most of this advantage, forcing a terrific pace for five furlongs. Ink, poorly ridden, steadily improved his position from a bad start and can do much better. Tristesse went well throughout. Nic Longworth closed a gap after being hampered at the start. Peeper got away poorly and was carried hopelessly wide on the stretch turn and Bullman seeing he could not win eased him up in the last sixteenth. He has worked fast private trials and is much better than todays race shows. Scratched— 38904 Reckless, 110; 38974*St. Jude, 107; Many Thanks, 105. Winner — Ch. g, by Horoscope — Lady Invercauld trained by J. Rowe. Went to post at 3:05. At post 3 minutes. Start straggling. Won driving; second easily. Wizard was easily best. He was crowded and buffeted about considerably and inclined to swerve while coming down the first incline, but closed up on the leader like a good one when he reached the level stretch. Miss Nancy stripped for this race in much better shape than in her last essay and made the entire running and stuck to her work with commendable gameness. Chockayotte was going -well at the end. So was Wotan. Sailor Knot came from a long way back in the last sixteenth and was running past the field at the end and is worth remembering in longer races. Any Day and Mimon were close up at the finish. Mimon was crowded and pulling up in the last fifty yards. Sweet Tone was a sharp contender up to the last sixteenth and was pulling up at the end. Tamarix was nearly left. Scratched— 38611 Grand Vitesse, 91. Wizard, show, 4 to 5. Miss Nancy, show, evens. Chockayotte, show, 5 to 1. Walter Cleary indulged Eophone with the lead for more than half the journey and cantered Into a long and winning lead when the latter fell on the far turn. Bolting and losing ten lengths at Liverpool failed to disconcert him. Neponset came away from the others in the last half like they were, anchored, but the winner was too good for him. Hark Forward outstayed Carrier Pigeon for third place after a long drive. The latter went well throughout. Headland and The Ragged Cavalier were going well at the end. Imperialist had no ■• , chance with the raw recruit that was on his back and refused. Judge Phillips fell at the Liverpool while going the first time around. Ishlana cut up badly while at the post and was lucky in getting away well, but forced the pace throughout, coming away in the last furlong with plenty in reserve. Mapoota broke and ran green and never really got down to business until she reached the level stretch at the end when she commenced to close up like a streak and is evidently a coming crackerjack. Fickle, under Bullmans hustling ride, developed superior early speed, but quit as if shot in the last sixteenth. Silvermeade trailed the others far in the rear. Scratched— 38975Mimosa, 119. Winner — B. c, by Atheling — Miss Glennon trained by W. F. Presgrave. Went to post at 4:35. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won in a canter; second driving. Shorthose, under a small and slow jockey, got away slowly, but steadily improved his position and when straightened for home a few strides sufficed to land him with a safe lead which he held without urging to the end, was much the best and is evidently; a high-class colt. Mexican had bled in his final preparation for this race, but made the running for six furlongs and held on well and was best of the others. Injunction, away poorly, trailed to the stretch where he closed up very fast although bearing out at the end. River Pirate tired and fell back after following Mexicans pace closely for six furlongs and is probably not a good weight carrier. Mesmer ran a good race. Sovereign was outrun from the start and was never dangerous. Scratched— 38879Mizzen, 126; 38955 Merry Acrobat, 126. Shorthose, show, evens. Mexican, show, 7 to 10. Injunction, show, out. Winner — B. h, by Luke Blackburn — Maud Ward trained by C. Hughes. Went to post at 5:00. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Luke Wards improvement was extraordinary. Although lucky in being allowed to make his own pace, and that a slow one too, he won under restraint and finished out the last quarter like a good one. Bonnibert is in rare form, but his rider waited perhaps too long before he woke up and although the horse was closing up fast and resolutely in the final effort he could never get up. Herbert was bumped on the first turn and subsequent waiting tactics proved disastrous. Zoroaster failed to stay and like the others was left by the winner in the stretch sprint.
