Merry Pioneer ran a good race, fought it out stoutly with Rainland all through the last furlong and dutganied him in the final drive. Rainland was crowded back at the start and made up a lot of ground, but tired when called on. He would have won with an even break. Brancas was under a hard drive all through the last quarter and had all he could do to stall off Go Between. The latter began slowly, but closed a big gap and finished very fast. Travers wore Grand Mary down while rounding the far turn, but had to stand a long hard drive to stand off a challenge from Arachne. The latter came wide at the turn into the homestretch, but finished fast and was gaining on the winner at every stride. Grand Mary was off running and had every advantage, showed much early speed, but tired when it came to a hard drive. Poor Boy and Our Jessie were virtually left at the post. Gleam Light was driving to the limit at the end to stall off Flaneur. The latter bolted to the outside at the turn out of the backstrech and finished next to the outside fence. John Mc-Gurk finished fast and just managed to get up in time to beat Fonsoluca out after going all around his field. Fonsoluca was used up in chasing Lampoon and tired. Lampoon ran a good race. Dr. Nowlin did his best, but his weight told on him in the stretch run. Lord Radnor ran his race and had no mishaps, but was used up in chasing Daryl and tired. Helen Paxton was never dangerous. . Insolence finished fast, closed a big gap in the last quarter and was catching the leader at every stride. Handcuff ran a good race, but tired in the last sixteenth. Professor Neville quit badly. Prism ran fairly well. Banana Cream, show, 6 to 5. Insolence, show, 4 to 1. Handcuff, show, 4 to 1. Prism, show, 1 to 2. Dr. Hart, show, 3 to 5. Chickadee, show, 3 to 5.
