Start good. Won easily; second the same. Sceptre broke fast in the good going on the outside, took a long lead in the first quarter and was never in danger. Geortuga came fast in the heavy going and was plainly best of the others. Jean Gravier was off badly, given an easy ride and ran an impressive race. An-zeiger was cut off twice and did not run his race. The others had no mishaps. Overweights — Neversuch, 2 pounds; Lucius M., 2; Maud Durbin, 3. Sceptre, show, 3 to 5. Geortuga, show, evens. Won driving; second the same. Major Pelham, a highly tried colt, ran in behind Old Stone to the stretch, then came along like a good racehorse, but had to be driven" out to win. Old Stone, under a good rider, displayed vast improvement and fully ran his race. He might have done better if he had* not been used up in pacemaking. Gus Heidorn saved ground on the stretch turn and closed up ground while running in the heaviest going. Ora McKinney was pinched off at the start. Brilliants was off badly. He is a great, big colt, green and said to be highly tried. Sartor Resartus ran out on both turns. Scratched— W. P. Palmer, 103. Major Pelham, show, 2 to 5. Old Stone, show, 4 to 5. Cressida, poorly handled and running in the heavy going, closed up fast through the stretch and ran a good race. Shot Proof was off badly, rushed _to the front and excessively used in the first half and allowed to swerve into the heavy mud near the rail in the stretch. Mollie T. tired. Start good. Won pulled up; second handily. Maltster revelled in the going, went past Kaffir when they straightened up on the back-stretch and won going away in impressive style. Kaffir, poorly handled, was rushed to the front and then taken back in the heaviest going, but came fast in the stretch and about ran his race. W. B. Gates liked the track and ran one of his best races. Alice Turner was well placed, but ran a very dull race in her own going. Ben Chance had bad racing luck. Jerry Hunt was in his own going, picked up his horses leisurely and wore Brown Vail down in the stretch run. Brown Vail, in perfect condition, found the going suited her, but tired at the end under a very bad ride. Monos ran a good race on a track unsuited to him. Lynch quit as usual. El Caney was going well when cut off. Lelia Barr showed speed, but tired in the going. Overweights — Regatta, 4 pounds. Jerry Hunt, show, 2 to 5. Brown Vail, show, 2J to 1. Monos, show, 7 to 10. ST. Cast Iron found the track exactly to his liking, showed much speed and made every post a winning one after shaking off Kunja. John Bull ran to his best mark. .King s Pet, off badly, had a rough time in getting through, but persevered and outgamed Irving Mayor at the end. Kunja was going well when she dropped out of the contest at the half mile post, ahe others were anchored in the going. The judges are investigating Kunja s race.
