Sir Christopher indulged Dr. Scharff with the lead for a quarter, then took it himself and won going away from his field after a keen brush with Orleans at the head of the stretch. Lynch was outrun in the first part of the race, but closed up resolutely in the stretch. Orleans got off behind her field and was taken through gradually and after making a determined bid at the eighth post tired at the finish and lost second plage to Lynch in the closing strides. The Messenger, a keen contender all the wray, also suffered from weak handling at the end. The Black Scot showed surprising improvement, but was made too much use of.
