Dark Planet received a lucky start and with clear sailing took a forward position well in hand until straightened for home, where he went to the front and under Burns* vigorous efforts just got home. Bar Le Due moved up from the rear early and was closing up fast at the end. Blue Victor was pocketed after the first quarter and with clear sailing in the stretch finished fastest of all. Morokanta probably found the route too far. Louise Elston displayed considerable speed for five furlongs. Scratched— 3S7613Sir Roche, 100; 391CS Snarkle Esher, 95. Moorhen enjoyed clear sailing all the way and ran a good race, is both speedy and game and probably more than useful. Australina forced the pace and was boring to the inside in the last furlong and seriously impeded Gx"and Vitesse. The latter was interfered with directly after the start and swerving in and out was finally crowded into the inner rail at the end. She is a big and promising filly that will be heard of later on. Fortunehunter was repeatedly shut off and when coming fast was knocked out of the race. Overweights — Grand Vitesse, 1 pound. Moorhen, show, 6 to 5. Australina, show, 4 to 5. He forced the pace from the start and only had to canter in the last quarter to dispose of Palmbearer. The latter succumbed after racing a fast three furlongs and was simply outclassed. He stuck gamely to his work under Gannons vigorous finish, but it was apparent that he was soundly beaten when a long way from home. Scratched— 3S830Broomstick, 127; 39170 Precious Stone, 119. Winner— B. c, by Star Ruby— Afric Queen trained by R. Miller. Went to post at 4:00. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Vfricander ran and won as if he completely outclassed his field. Bullman found it difficult yo place him in the early running and on the backstretch let him have his head, with the result that he quickly raced into a long and winning lead and never seriously threatened he finished with plenty in reserve. Whorler is a colt of good class and looks it. He ran under a pull the major part of the race and when called on closed up resolutely at the end and should work down into one of the good three-year-olds of the year. Red Knight trailed his field for a mile and an eighth and loomed up strongly at the Withers turn, but failed to make any headway against the first two and finished out an eased up third. Rigodon essayed to make the running without success. All of the others ran past him at will, yet he kept up a steady lick throughout and ran like a cup route would suit him. Scratched— 39205 Mexican, 126. No show betting. QOOCK FIFTH RACE— About 2 1-2 Miles. Steeplechase. ,000 added. 4-year-olds 0*.00 and upward. Handicap. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won in a canter; second easily. Semper Ira found himself a long way in the lead after Jim Newman had bolted the course and won all the way with ridiculous ease. He fenced cleanly and showed the most speed by far on the flat. The race resolved itself down into a procession and Perion finished within three lengths of the winner on sufferance. Baby Bills usefulness as a cross-country performer has seemingly long since passed away. Scratched— 39171 Neponset, 154; 39231 Victor, 133; 392023Tankard, 132. The latter moved up fast on the stretch turn and although loosely ridden finished going very fast and was probably the best today. Sparkle Esher was pinched out at the Btart and closed a big gap "and is steadily improving. Judge Fulton was going well when straightened for home. Geisha Girl worked a rough journey in weak hands.
