IRISH LAD WILL COME. New York, June 10.— Barring accidents, Irish Lad will be a sure starter in the American Derby. Herman B. Duryea, who arrived from England yesterday evening, had a conference with Harry Payne Whitney last night and, was at Sheepshead Bay this morning to see the winner of the Brooklyn Handicap. He stood at Rogers side while the colt did a gallop of a mile and a quarter in 2:25. This afternoon at Gravesend he was evasive when interviewed about Irish Lads engagement at Washington Park, but intimated that no definite decision had been reached. The only direct statement he made was: "If Irish Lad starts in the , American Derby I will surely be in Chicago to see him run." A decision must have been made shortly after the last race, for reliable information that the son of Candlemas and Arrowgrass will be shipped to Chicago was obtained tonight. Whether he will begin the journey Wednesday or Thursday appears to be the only matter to be settled. Doc Riddles branch of the stable of M. H. Tichenor and Co. got away this morning in good order and is due in Chicago tomorrow. John W. Schorr has a ticket on Irish Lad ■calling for 0,000 against 00. He got on at 40 to 1, but says he has a couple of partners. Senator McCarren will not send Mackey Dwyer to Washington Park to measure strides with the Whitney and Duryea candidate. "My horse," said he, "has been off, but is coming around again and while I consider Trim a good, useful three-year-old, I dont "believe he can beat Irish Lad. He can go a Derby route, but that is not enough. It will Tequire a horse of great speed and superior weight-carrying ability to tackle Irish Lad •with any hope of defeating him." T. J. Gallagher.
