Baseful is steadily improving and bids fair to develop into the first flight of this seasons two-year-olds. He is a colt of grand proportions, began slowly today and trailed his field, ■weaving in and out until straightened for home, when he went to the front in a flash and was much the best. Monet was a prominent contender throughout and at the end put up a stiff fight. Yellow Hammer was carried wide on the turn, losing considerable ground, but had the advantage of the best going and finished fast. Cascine swerved at the start and held a rear position under an unspeakably bad ride. With clear sailing on the inside he finished out the last quarter fast and was easily second best. Hopeful Miss forced the pace and was a sharp contender when a sixteenth out. Ruth Parrish has worked well. Scratched— 39743Montana King, 122; 39512Jim Kelly, 122. Baseful, show, out. Winner — Br. c, by Lamplighter — The Crow trained by F. Regan. Went to post at 2:55. At post 3 minutes. Stact straggling. Won in a canter; second easily. Nevermore was particularly favored by the stiff going, gradually picked up his field and, leading into the stretch, was only cantering at the finish. Coruscate was pocketed and interfered with to the stretch, where with clear saling she finished like a cyclone. Russell Garth gave the winner a strong argument for nearly six furlongs and evidently liked the going. Jola and Baker Waters, both nearly left, closed a tremendous gap. Scoffer quit badly in the stretch. Winner— B. c, by Bassetlaw— Ruralia trained by F. D. Weirj. Went to post at 3:25. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Nameoki today stripped hot and full of ginger and with not a trace of his recent soreness. Off to a lucky start he attended the pacemaker closely to the stretch, where he ran past him with ease. Rusk, a quick beginner, beat the barrier and made the most of his advantage, leading well in hand for a half and held on well at the end after a sharp brush with the winner. Jim Kelly was crowded back in the first furlong, after which he was compelled to run around his field, was going fast at the finish and his effort was particularly meritorious at the weights. Jocund, away last and unable to get through, finally worked a rough journey to the stretch, where he was gaining fast on the leaders. Brooklynite is steadily improving. Seymour failed to stay on the grass course and the race is not his true form. Bass got away badly and had no chance. Pentaur, a grand looker, began slowly and ran on the extreme outside throughout. Scratched— 39768 Race King, 121; 398143Yellow Hammer, 110; 39478 Colonel Kearney, 110; S82302Letola, 107. Corrected weights— Jim Kelly. 125; Tom ODay, 110. Nameoki, show, 3 to 1. Rusk, show, 6 to 5. Winner— B. or br. m, by Ben Strome— Prudence trained by B. Wood. Went to post at 3:50. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. X ady Uncas got away runing, led throughout and won right on the post under Redferns superb finish. He could have won on any one of the first three. Blues was rushed up next to the rail and forced into the fence and was badly cut on the stifle. Hoars foot was also crushed and he failed to do the horse justice in the race, worked through finally in the worst going and rode poorly at the finish. Astarita got away poorly and ONeil was alternately easing her up or sending her to a sudden drive and when too late closed up and was going fastest of all at the end. The others were outrun from the start. Scratched— 39793 Lux Casta, 132; 397903Dublin, 128; 39294 Oom Paul, 124; 39793 Himself,97. Overweights — Mary Street, 5 pounds. -Lady Uncas, show, 3 to 5. Douro ran nearly up to his best form today, rushed to the front on the stretch turn, cantered home alone and was much the best. Sambo was choked back of the ridiculously slow pace for six furlongs and allowed the winner to steal a long lead on him, followed him up -when too late and finished with a great rush. Torchlight was at a great disadvantage as pacemaker and was outsprinted in the final dash to the wire. Carbuncle was never dangerous, trailing his field throughout. Irish Jewel was lucky at the start and Haack riding a confident looking race on him, indulged Florham Queen with the early lead, striding to the front with ease when straightened for the wire. Carroll D. showed improved form on the grass course, making a close stretch turn and finished going fast. Lady Potentate got away poorly and improved her position throughout. Royal Pirate ran a good race and figured in the first flight. St. Sever fell out of it early and made up some ground in the stretch. Thorneycroft was nearly left. Gloriosa went hopelessly wide on the first turn, which eliminated her as a contender. Scratched— 396712Setauket, 105; 39697Kingraine, 104. Corrected weights — St. Sever, 105; Gloriosa, 96. , .
