Brown Vail tired in the stretch when she apparently had the race won. Chandoo finished fast. The boy on Broodier refused to ride into the flying mud and the horse ran an inferior race. Galanthus was off badly, taken the long way and was given a weak ride. Scratched— 38963 Certain, 111; 39944 Countess Clara, 109; 399G8 Burlap, 101; 39488 Murmur, 94. Won driving; second the same. Howling Dervish displayed unexpected ability to run in mud, was under pressure all the way, stood a drive gamely and was held straight while the others were staggering at the end. I Know finished with great gameness under a weak ride and would have won in a few more strides. Dr. Scharff was apparently winning easily, but Shea let go of his head to whip him and fell out quickly. Reducer ran fairly well. Ciales went badly in the going. Perla was off running free of mud, saved ten lengths by cutting across the stretch turn while the field swung wide, but she was tiring at the end. Matt Wadleigh ran his usual consistent race, but was also tiring at the end. Imboden ran into the fence, but finished like a tornado and might have won had Matt Wadleigh not swung in and interfered with him in the last fifty yards. Kilo ran his race. Eugenie B. went well to the three-eighths post, when Kelly got her cut off, though he was on, the outside. She lost several lengths here, closed a lot of ground, swung very wide turning into the stretch and tired. She ran a brilliant race. Don Alvaro did not like the mud. Scratched — 395782Leopard, 113. Jack Young ran to his best form, stuck to his work gamely and ■won on his courage. Orris ran an exceptionally good race in mud. DeReszke went well to the stretch, then tired. Taby Tosa does not like mud. Pourquoi Pas is seemingly of no present account. Maltster was caught in the barrier and as good as left, raced to the front in the first half, then tired.
