Rustic Girl showed much the most speed and made a show of her company. Showman was driving to the limit at the end to stall off John J. Regan, he latter closed a big gap in the last furlong. Taxman was away too poorly to make any showing. Firing Line showed but little speed. Firing Line, entered for 00, was claimed by R. F. Meyers. Blue Darter ran a good race and came away in the last eighth after George James tired and Handmore had run very wide. Lyrist had a rough trip and was badly cut off on the turn, but came on, finishing well. Handmore was badly ridden and was made too much use of when rounding the far turn. John Drake showed surprising improvement, wore Animosity down while rounding the far turn and came with a rush in the stretch run. Matt Simpson saved ground all the way and outgamed Animosity when it came to a drive. The latter was off well in motion and showed early speed, but tired in the last quarter. Belle Dodson was best handled, raced Jessie J. into submission in the first part of the race and came away at her leisure in the stretch. Diamontina was also well handled, ran well and is steadily improving. "Vestment came fast in the final furlong. Jessie J. showed early speed, but tired. Sir Gallant jumped away in the lead and opened up a winning gap before reaching the first turn. He was only cantering at the finish. Bank Street caught Glenwood tiring on the far turn and had no trouble in getting second place. Glenwood ran in improved form. Easy Street began slowly and made up a lot of ground in the last quarter.
