Mag Nolin was off running and assumed a winning lead in the first quarter, but was held back to her field, saved ground on the stretch turn and won going away. She is a good filly and her races have about fitted her. Quaker Girl ran a good race to the stretch, then swung wide and lost much ground. Hugh McGowan closed up stoutly at the end. Dr. Cartledge was given a very bad ride and can do better. Mag Nolin, show, out. Quaker Girl, show, 4 to 5. Hugh McGowan, show, 3 to 1. Bear Creek was well ridden, endured continuous pressure, stood a long stretch drive and just lasted long enough. Lady Chariot was given a vigorous ride and finished fast and gamely on the outside. Dotty Shute was badly ridden, but finished well. Dolly Hayman had no mishaps. She was in a good position all the way and tired in the stretch run. Tangent was very high in flesh, but displayed a good turn of speed. Scratched— 39704 Style, 105; 39968 Flash of Night, 101. Bear Creek, show, 8 to 5. Lady Chariot, show, evens. Lady Vashti was well rated in second place until the stretch was reached and when called on had no trouble in disposing of Joe Goss. The latter was off running and at once went to the front, was well ridden and easily the best of the others. Impetuous was always a contender and, ran a creditable race Custus and Mint Leaf finished fast. Pierce J. did not run his race. Howling Dervish ran poorly. She went to the front early and was never troubled thereafter and won with something left. Frank Bell and Maltster fought it out all through the stretch and Maltster got the verdict in the last stride. Frank Bell had no mishaps. Miss Mae Day ran out on the stretch turn and was eased up when it was useless for Gisbourne to urge her farther. Orleans ran as if outclassed. Santa Ventura, show, 2 to 5. Maltster, show, 1 to 2. Eugenia S. tired after setting a fast pace for a mile. Eliza Dillon was a keen contender to the last sixteenth, where she was pocketed. Hegira tired. Broodier fell away beaten after running a good race to the stretch. Overweights — Varner, 2 pounds. Neversuch, show, 1 to 2. Pathos, show, 6 to 5. Eugenia S., show, 2 to 1. Eliza Dillon, show, 1 to 2.
