"Won driving; second the same. Bath Beach held on in a straight course today long enough to have the race won before he ran out, which he Anally did in the last furlong, after having led his field from the start by a wide margin. Wotan emerged from the ruck when beginning the stretch run and finished with a rush. Walterin was a prominent contender to the stretch turn, where her chances for winning were practically destroyed, the field closing over on her, forcing her jockey to pull up. Thistle Heather tired right at the end after following the winners pace closely. Sandhurst got away well and had clear sailing throughout, was under a continual drive, but could never get into sharp contention. Berosa is a good looker and is improving. Ancestor was nearly left, closed a big gap and finished fast. Bxtralaw was crowded out of it at the start. Scratched — 10136 Sweet Tone, 109; 40109 Mohave, 100; 401362Excentral, 92. Lux Casta, lucky at the start and skillfully ridden, waited closely on. the pacemaker and finished out a strong final quarter, just getting up and scoring a very lucky win. Rigodon got away none too well and ran in close quarters almost throughout, made repeated efforts to get through next to the rail in the stretch and finally forced his way into an opening by main strength, but too late to get up. Illyria at the weight was remarkably well in and he practically forced the pace throughout. Lady Uncas fell away when beginning the final frulong. Ingold was going very fast at the end. St. Daniel, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap. Dekaber was out of place. John A. Scott is in bad form. Won driving; second easily. Conjurer and Gallant forced the pace together head and head almost throughout, the winner being slightly outfooted for the first five furlongs, but being on the outside with the advantage of Odom having a free whip hand, he slowly but surely wore Gallant down, getting home in the last stride. Gallant clearly outpaced his field for five and a half furlongs and was probably unlucky to lose, due to his being pinned in tightly next to the rail at the end. Pulsus gradually fell away after the first three furlongs, the pace being phenomenally fast and was a beaten horse when straightened for home, but finished a well up third. Boxwood got to Pulsus head at the end of the half mile and then gave it up completely. Scratched— 39986 Alliance. 114; 40134 Monadnock, 114; Alforten, 114. Conjurer, show, 1 to 3. Went to post at 4:00. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Africander, superbly handled by Bullman, was placed for the first mile with brilliant results. After trailing in the rear division, he moved up gradually on the backstretch, still under a choking pull, fell away suddenly and, bearing out on the stretch turn, appeared beaten, but he unexpectedly flashed through on the inside when a furleng out. He was pulled up and jumping on the two leaders, being securely pocketed, but he finally bumped his way through on the outside of Golden Maxim, which he overhauled in the last stride with a matchless burst of speed. He was easily best today and could have won off with clear sailing at the end. Golden Maxim stamped himself a brilliant and fast rater and an incomparable stayer. He sutained a phenomenal pace at the distance with remarkable stamina and suffered from a lamentably weak finish on the part of Cochran. Savable was lucky throughout, took third place and close up on the inside to the stretch turn, where he moved up fast and was shut off by the leader, came around and appeared like winning when beginning the final furlong and only just failed to stay in the last hundred yards. He is a magnificent colt and the peer of any three-year-old in training here and his effort today was wonderful in view of having just landed from the west. Whorler, just short of high class, ran a splendid race for a mile and three furlongs and followed Golden Maxims record breaking speed closely for that distance before he succumbed. Shorthose moved up fast on the final stretch turn and then tailed away in the last quarter as if short and probably was not fit. Corrected weights — Cardinal Wolsey, 113. Africander, show, 3. to 5. Start straggling. Won easily; second driving. Ascension got away well and took second position behind the pacemaker Akela, and when he bolted on the stretch turn she shot into a long lead, winning off at the finish. Bellario .got away none too well and was given a cowardly and inefficient ride throughout, was repeatedly pulled up on the backstretch and when Akela. was whipped back again to the inner rail Michaels took his mount up to nearly a standstill, but he finished resolutely on his own courage. Akela made play from the start and held a long and apparently winning lead when he bolted. Sambo, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap. Kingraine was a fast horse, ridden by a very slow rider. The latter got away slowly and Burns pulled him up and out of a. good rail position on the difficult first turn and then waited a very long time before miking his effort.
