Winner — B. c, by Star Ruby — Lady Bug trained by J. L. McGinnis. Went to post at 2:30. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Tim Payne, off last on the outside, but with clear sailing to a perfect start, gradually improved his position and, turning into the stretch on the leaders heels, he wore him down and came away fast at the end. Montreson was forced out of his position early and thereafter worked a rough journey to the stretch, where he finished fast. Collector Jessup, next to the rail and away well, forced the pace, but was never allowed to get far away. Having the advantage of the inside position throughout, he had no mishaps, but may have been short as he tired badly in the final sixteenth. Montana King was pulled up when Michaels found himself in close quarters and fell far back in the first quarter, but closed a tremendous gap in the stretch. Graziallo put up a brilliant performance on the extreme outside, but a wide stretchturn ruined his chances. Rusk is evidently a non-stayer. James V. was crowded back early. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won in a canter; second driving. Lavator alternated in the lead with Judge Phillips for two miles, then went to the front under Maras energetic and skillful ride, barely holding" his advantage with the issue in doubt at the last jump, where the only serious competitor fell, allowing the winner to come home alone. Tip Gallant rah today like a horse that was foundered, trailed far in the rear and after the first mile he had no chance apparently of ever getting up, but dropped into second place after Judge Phillips fell. Mystic Shriner ran well up for over half the journey, then fell away badly. Rising Sun was palpably unfit and was never in It. Tip Gallant and Rising Sun both pulled up lame. Won easily; second the same. Homestead forged to the front in the stretch after having attended the pacemaker closely and won going away. Baikal sustained his superior speed unexpectedly well, made the running for nearly a mile and is a greatly improved horse. Past got away well and held a prominent position throughout. Tribes Hill fell out of contention while going up the backstretch and trailing closed up very fast on his own courage during the short stretch run. Irish Jewel, apparently in good form, failed to stay after being a prominent contender for over seven furlongs. Belle of Troy was always outrun, ran a bad race and can do much better. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Water Boy outclassed his field, auickly took second position on the inside and indulged Oom Paul with the lead for seven furlongs, where he was crowded and pulling up and momen- , iarily in danger of defeat. He however extricated himself by sheer strength, bumping his -way through and went right after Roehampton, which had taken a long lead, and on the . turn into the stretch had the victory as good as won. In the stretch Odom was looking , back and when ready came away comfortably at the end. Roehampton s remarkably good race after his sore preliminary came as a tremendous surprise. Bullman rode a patient : race, biding his time until he realized the critical position the favorite was in at the half, at which point he sailed to the front in a jiffy and, after a game struggle with the winner, finished far in front of the others. River Pirate was forced out of his position on the backstretch. He put up a game effort, however, and his race demonstrates that he can ; istay. Oom Paul went to the front in the first furlong and forced a terrific pace to the far turn and held on well at the end. Francesco, evidently not keyed up, ran a close up fourth ; for nearly seven furlongs. Hunter Raine was outrun and trailed far in the rear, but was • making up ground at the end. Injunction, after being well up for seven furlongs, quit ; badly. The time is a new record. , . Winner— Ch. h, by Candlemas— Royal Falcon trained by F. Burlew. . Went to post at 4:30. At post 6 minutes. Start bad. Won easily; second driving. Royal outclassed his field and was much the best. He was in close quarters for five furlongs and, pulling up on the stretch turn, came along on the outside at the end and ran past the leaders as if they were anchored. Forward was a prominent contender throughout and showed sudden improvement in early speed and at the end stood a long drive gamely Interval forced the pace nearly throughout, drew clear in the last furlong and appeared like a sure winner. Young Henry, at a disadvantage in such a big field, being a slow beginner, was closing up like a cyclone in the stretch. Syrlin was knocked out ■ of it at the start and, in an amazing burst of speed, raced into prominence on the back-stretch, the effort tiring him at the end. Osgood was jostled out of it early. Ormonde s Right made a Promising debut, followed the winner closely throughout, tailing off slightly only in the last t sixteenth. He is a grand looker and may turn out to be a crackerjack. The Southerner, *» a slow beginner, worked a rough journey, steadily moving up and closing a tremendous gap in the last furlong and may have been the best. _ Great Crossing made up a lot of ground.
