Mayor Graham ran in much improved form and had no mishaps. He is improving and will probably do better. King Rose began slowly and was twice cut off. then came fast and finished strongly. Tangent tired after going a half. Jake is a good looking green colt, broke slowly and ran very fast on the straights, but lost ground on the turns. Scratched— 39460 Anzeiger, 104. Murmur was bumped badly at the start and was rushed around the leaders on the turns, was doing her best all the way and holding her own at the end. Gas Lighter closed up very fast through the stretch. Venus Victrix showed much improvement, but tired in the stretch run. The Fiddler ran a fairly good race. Helen Hay did not run her race. Lynch tired. Professor Neville ran a dull race under an energetic ride. Overweights — Lynch, 2 pounds; Professor Neville, 3. Murmur, show, out. Gas Lighter, show, 4 to 5. Forehand was next to the rail behind a compact bunch of three to the stretch, then he came to the outside, went past the leaders quickly and won as his rider pleased. Check Morgan ran an extra good race and had no mishaps. Fenian appeared high in flesh and unfit, but went well for five furlongs, then tired. He is a fine looker, has been highly tried and is probably a good colt. Jehane tired. Athena can do much better. Overweights — Fenian, 2 pounds. Forehand, show, out. Check Morgan, show, 3 to 2. Fickle Saint broke smartly on the inside, saved all ground possible, was well placed behind the leaders and kept straight in the stretch and won by virtue of Bells superior finish. Algareta went well throughout under a weak rider. She bore out in the stretch run and might have won had she been kept straight. Ciales was cut off at the half-mile ground and compelled to pull up, then closed a lot of ground on the inside and was probably best. Miss West made a very fast move on the stretch turn and was apparently winning when she fell without colliding with any horse. Mike Strauss was off in a jam and could not get to going. Reducer was going fast when he fell over Miss West. 1 Scratched — 40093 Lord Neville, 114; 39886 Jerry Hunt, 111; 40144 Presbyterian, 110.
