HAWTHORNE NEXT WEEK. With the close of the Washington Park meeting near at hand, Manager Kuhl and Secretary Clark are busily engaged in preparing for the resumption of racing at Hawthorne next Monday. The stakes that closed last week filled remarkably well with an aggregate of 535 entries, including nearly all the star performers at Washington Park. The program book for the first week is out It calls for the running of the Premier Stakes, one mile for three-year-olds, ,500 added, Monday; the Juvenile Stakes, 5 1-2 furlongs for two-year-olds, ,500 added, Thursday, and the Northern Handicap, 1 1-4 miles for three-year-olds and over, ,000 added, Saturday. The purses are eight of 00, sixteen of 00, five of 00, one of 00, two of 00 and one of ,000, a liberal advance over the program for the same time last year and one that will be duly appreciated by owners.
