Went to post at 2:30. At post 2 minutes. Start straggling. Won driving; second the same. The Regent ran into* the lead on the first turn and never relinquished his advantage, but finished out straight as a string and was a lucky horse. Albany Girl, also favored at the start, held her own throughout and finished gamely. Mary Worth showed sudden improvement. Spring Silk broke from the extreme outside and when passing the stand the first time was at least twenty lengths behind the leaders, which gap he closed and was running fastest at the end after taking the outside all the way and was Immeasurably the best. .Blue Victor, away none too well, moved up fast on the backstretch and put up a game but futile effort at the end. Royal Pirate was carried out on the first turn and crowded to the rails all around the far turn, but ran a comparatively poor race. Russell Garth particularly favors mud. Mabel Richardson is reported to have worked a fast six furlongs. Overweights— Mary Worth, 1 pound; Earl of Norfolk, 3; Russell Garth, 4; Sentry, 1; "Lajara, 4; Blue Victor, 1. Valdez outpaced and outjumped his field and was skillfully and patiently ridden, taking the lead on the first turn the last time around and easily stalling off the badly-ridden Fox-hunter. The latter got away poorly and was driving early to get into a contending position. He fenced poorly and ran a dull race. Woolgatherer came along at the end going fast. Ohnet made a good impression on his first essay through the field and should develop into a good one at the game. Scratched— 40282Judge Phillips, 158; 39838 Fabius, 130. Winner — B. g, by Henry Young — Volandera trained by A. Shields. Went to post at 3:30. At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Young Henry is in great form and has developed superior early speed, ran a close up third to the-stretch, where he finished with his usual stretch sprint. Flying Buttress closed up a lot of ground from a poor start and in the stretch his finish was of the whirlwind order and he appeared to be catching the winner fast. Demurrer forced a very fast pace for five and a half furlongs and held on remarkably well in a fierce end drive. Shot Gun followed Demurrers pace closely enough and gained on him in the final quarter, but failed to head him. Rosetint, outrun early, finished fast. St. Finnan ran a bad race and is a rank in and outer. So is Illyria. Scratched— 40159 Hurstbourne, 126; 39908*If You Dare, 111; 39389 Stroller, 111. Overweights — Flying Buttress, 2 pounds. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won in a canter; second driving. Nameoki fell in behind the leaders to the stretch, where he came through next to the rails and, quickly getting on terms, finished out the last furlong in front easing up. Bob Murphy made the running for five furlongs and came home an easy second. Midshipman is a slow breaker and ran on the outside throughout, losing much ground on the turns, but closing up fast at the end. He is a good looker and will improve. Excentral, after falling far behind going up the backstretch, commenced to move up very fast in the stretch turn and, going on the outside at the end, should have been third. Dusky fell away after racing a good half in close attendance on the leader. Revelation showed some early speed. Bob Murphy, show.lto 3. Midshipman.show, evens. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Andy Williams recovered his good form suddenly and outclassed his field at the weights. He got away last, but was sent along from the start and while going up the backstretch took a close third and, practically indulging the leaders to the stretch, he ran past them when his rider got ready. Black Hussar followed the pacemaker closely and on the far turn appeared to be all out, but under the whip he kept on and finished out the last quarter fast. Sambo received a slow ride. Haack relinquished a good position early and then ran his horse up next to the rail, where he was securely pocketed to the stretch, where he commenced to close up fast. Lord Advocate showed a lot of speed and improved staying powers. Ethics was always outrun and his well-known stretch run failed to materialize and he is evidently completely off. Water Tower did not warm up today and his race was a very bad one. Scratched — 10209 Agnes D., 107. Corrected weights — Black Hussar, 100. Andy Williams, show, evens. Black Hussar, show, 7 to 10. Irascible got away in front, won all the way under a pull and was much the best. Hyland ran a surprisingly good race, came from a long way back, closing up with a tremendous rush in the stretch and was easily second best. Polite was carried out so wide by Sentinel on the first turn that Gannon pulled him up and went over to the inside and he was badly bothered before he got clear sailing in the stretch, where he gained ground rapidly. Wye-field fell in behind the winner to the stretch, where he failed to make good and is evidently a non-stayer. Semper Vivax retired early. Sentinel went hopelessly wide on the iirst turn. Cocagne went a good five furlongs and is a likely looker, but not sound. Senlac refuses to run up to her looks and private trials.
