San-ton, well ridden, was not called on until entering the last quarter, where he moved up fast and stood off Birch Brooms determined challenge in the last hundred yards with great gameness. The latter stood a long stretch drive, but could not quite get up. Sioux Chief showed in improved form, easily wearing Rossmond down in the last sixteenth for third place. The latter tired fast when the pinch came. Semper Vivum was used up racing with Beautiful and Best in the first six furlongs and had nothing left to* finish with. The latter, displayed much speed for six furlongs and then retired. Santon, show, 1 to 3. Birch Broom, show, 1 to 5. Sioux Chief, show, 2 to 1. The latter stood a long stretch drive and displayed much gameness in the closing strides. Boaster began slowly, but moved up rapidly turning into the last quarter and finished going fast under a hard drive. Bessie McCarthy tired pal-. pably in the closing strides, but ran a good race and will bear watching in the same company hereafter. Hermencia ran a dull race and was never a serious contender. Peter Paul was not called on until entering the last quarter, where he easily passed into the lead, winning as his rider pleased. Memories was thrown somewhat off her stride by being bumped into by Nannie Hodge at the last eighth post, but rallied quickly and finished going fast. Nannie Hodge ran her usual honest race, but could not concede the weight. Shawana began slowly, but moved up fast in- the last quarter and finished going fast. Jerry Lynch appears to be of no present account. Blumenthal showed much early speed, but was well beaten when a furlong out. Witchcraft and Shawana were not moving at the start. Won driving; second easily. The Forum worked his way up fast when turning for home and, standing a long stretch drive Just got up in time to nip Mary McCafferty on the post. The latter appeared the winner when a furlong out after wearing down Cousin Carrie, but Wilson was of little help to her in the closing strides and she tired when challenged by the winner. Cousin Carrie beat the flag by a good margin and showed much speed, but tired fast when the pinch came. Lovable ran her usual honest race. Jane Holly, all entangled at the start, had no chance bv P the time she had gotten into her full stride. The others were never serious contenders. Travers began slowly and had some difficulty in getting through just before turning for home, but moved up fast In the stretch and had the field beaten when a sixteenth out. Evelyn Byrd stood a long stretch drive well and outgamed Flaunt in the closing strides. The latter was pocketed in the last sixteenth when running next to the inside rail. Balm of Gilead finished resolutely under a hard drive. Never Fret showed much speed for five and a half furlongs. Zibia was well beaten when a furlong out.
