He pulled up quite sore after his victory and may not last long. Bellario, next to the rail, was pocketed and frequently oullinjr up, closing up with a rush when he got clear sailing on the stretch turn and was easilv second best. Lady Potentate got away poorly and was messed about on the first turn steadily improved her position and ~was closingup at the end like a cyclone. Ethics showed sudden Improvement and came from a long way back at the end and but for belntr tltrhtlv* pinned on the rail would have been third. Thorneycroft may have found the track too hard as he is an unsound horse. He ran on the outside throughout and moved up fast in OOMTINOBB OX FIFTH FAQ1, BRIGHTON BEACH FORM CHART-CONTINUED. the stretch, suddenly falling away in the final drive. Winner — Ch. h, by Himyar — Felicite trained by W. C. Daly. Went to post at 4:00. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Himself, after trailing a comparatively slow early pace, which suited him, was suddenly sent along on the outside when a half mile from home and, quickly disposing of W. R. Condon, came away without urging. Tugai Bey ran under a pull in the earfy. stages and Wilkerson allowed him to be forced out of his position and then ran him on top of horses on the stretch turn and at the end he was found to be finishing faster than the winner, but swerving in behind him. This is an improving colL Cogswell had been trailing the field for nearly six furlongs and moved up with a rush at the end. Elliott is improving, but is nothing like the horse he showed to be in California. W. R. Condon was speedy and could not be placed in the early stages, but quit badly in the last quarter. Throw out his race. Articulate held his own well up when they were all going slowly and quickly fell away when real racing commenced. Rain or Shine is evidently a coming good one and there is plenty of room for improvement in his make up. Under Bullmans vigorous efforts he held his position in the front rank to the stretch, where he fell away somewhat, but coming again in steady fashion he wore the leaders down getting up in the last stride. Race King forced a terrific pace throughout which he sustained with rare stamina. Baseful got away fiatfooted and was outrun up the backstretch. He was forced to take to the outside on the turn and the ground he lost by so doing probably cost him the race. He appeared like winning in the stretch, but tired slightly in the last fifty yards. Hopeful Miss is a non-stayer, and Silent Water was outclassed completely. Corrected weights— Silent Water, 114. Rain or Shine, show, 1 to 4. Race King, show, 1 to 3. Baseful, show, 1 to 4. Leipsic was best, Burns got him away well but in an attempt to get through at the half was seriously crowded and pocketed. He came along in the stretch with a rush and won going away. Hyland got away poorly, but quickly got into his stride and closing a big early gap he rushed into a long lead on the far turn and seemed a winner in the stretch, but Lewis rode a surprisingly weak finish. King Carter, nearly left, closed a tremendous gap. Nuit Blanche was running past horses in the stretch. Nodo forced the pace as far as he could and held on gamely in spite of excessive early use. Williamstead was knocked out of contention on the first turn and closed a tremendous gap in the last six furlongs. Co-cagne maintained a good position throughout and Is improving.
