Irving Mayor relished the soft going, was vigorously handled and kept on in the best going in the stretch and won going away. Daddy Bender was in his element, ran a good race and might have won had Bridwell kept his head up in the stretch run. He stumbled and swerved into the bad going next to the rail. Professor Neville finished well. So did Belle Simpson, which was badly ridden. The Fiddler ran fairly well. Ben Hempstead was probably short of work and tired. Ben Hullum wants a fast track. Daddy Bender was ineligible under the conditions of the race. It was ordered that he be disqualified, but bets stand. Scratched— 39844 Eocrys, 104. Won handily; second driving. Fenian was away well and carefully ridden, came fast at the end and was best. Tootsey Mack, a good little filly, closed up strongly in the stretch and might have won with good racing luck. Dusty Miller ran a very good race under the weight. Lord Hermence was right there all the way. Bustler ran a fairly good race. Signorina went well. Scratched — 40313 Port Warden, 108; 40315 Wigwam, 108; Toupee, 105. Won driving; second easily Forehand broke slowly, but made up ground steadily, caught Clifton Forge in the stretch and wore her down in a hard drive to the wire. Clifton Forge set a very fast pace in the going, but was rushed too much and had nothing left when challenged. Major Pelham ran a poor race. Mafalda and Orient both can do better. Tom Kiley was a contender for five furlongs, then tired. Mag Nolin was pulled up soon after the start. Forehand, show, 1 to 2. Clifton Forge, show, 2 to 1. Miss West disposed of Tom Crabb in the first half and was well ridden, but was lucky to last long enough to beat Nearest. The latter did not show her usual early speed, but finished fast, would have won in another stride and evidently ran a better race than she was expected to run. Fourleaf C. broke very fast from last position and went up to second place in the first sixteenth, was then taken back from the choice position on the outside to the deep going on the inside, where she ran all the rest of the way. It was a very bad-looking ride. Tom Crabb ran his race. Ciales went well for a half, then tired. Miss West, show, 3 to 5. Nearest, show, 4 to 5.
