Start fair. Won handily; second driving. Baikal, away well, fell right in behind a closely bunched band, all fighting for the lead, and then came along and caught them all "tiring midway of the homestretch and won going away. Blue and Orange, fresh and good, forced the pace from the start and ran a cracking good race, but gave way in the last furlong and was probably short. Our Nugget was always a prominent contender and stood a long drive home in game fashion. Princess Tulane, very badly handled, should have been easily third, but was pinned to the rail by Our Nugget in the last sixteenth and repeatedly bumped. Akela closed a big gap from a bad break. Counterpoise, as usual, failed to stay and helped to beat Blue and Orange. Foxy Kane quit in the stretch. Athlana quit all over at the end, the early paca proving too fast for her. Winner Ch. c, by The Commoner Lady Eon trained by J. Bauer. Went to post at 2:35. At post 4 minutes. Start straggling. Won in a canter; second easily Harangue received a flying start and spreadeagled his field. Nothing ever got near him and he won off at the end. It was an amazingly impressive victory and the winner ran like a crackerjack. Hello also got away in his stride and in spite of the weight and his recent long distance racing was able to outrun the others from the start. He put up a game effort to overhaul the winner, but realizing the hopelessness of the task, ONeill eased him up in the last sixteenth. Fol Roger is a genuinely improved colt and was closing up fast at the end. Molinos was shuffled out of it in the early running and then came from last place in the closing three furlongs and finished a going but tiring fourth. Juvenal Maxim was not ready at the start and lost a lot of ground and. after a brief display of speed, fell away and finally finished out the race pulling up. It was a peculiar looking race. Winner B. f, by Donovan Lucasta trained by R. W. Walden. Went to post at 3:35. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Lux Casta, lightly weighted, lucky and vigorously ridden, proved the better stayer and won out right at the end from Ahumada after having held a forward position in the early running. Ahumada put up a brilliant race in point of speed and stamina, forced the pace throughout and Higgins lacked vigor in the closing drive or he would have won. Wild Thyme came along fast in the closing rush and was wearing the leaders down. Colonel Bill held a good position in the early running, when he suddenly fell out of it as the field straightened for home. He then made up a lot of ground at the end and finished an eased up fourth. Irene Lindsey was outrun and moreover failed to stay and the task was probably too much for her at the weights or she was short. Illyria got away badly and closed a big gap. Duskv beat the barrier and led throughout, except for the brief interval on the turn, where he came wide and finished out on the good footing. Clear the Arena ran lapped on the winner throughout and was wearing him down at the end. Coppelia was easily the best, but when coming through fast on the inside in beginning the last furlong she was knocked out of it and closed up like a cyclone in the last fifty yards. Komombo tired badly at the end. Riverdale loomed up next to the rail in the last sixteenth and then fell away again. Mr. Pickwick ran a good race and finished close up. Colonsay is an improved horse, ran in a prominent position to the stretch, where he took the lead and in a long and terrific drive just got home. It was the best race of his career "nd he showed superior gameness. Mabel Richardson, skillfully handled and running within striking distance of the leaders from the start, put up her usual good stretch run and when she appeared like winning in the last sixteenth tired and may have been short. Tribes Hill had a rough journey throughout under an Inefficient rider and when coming throuch in the last furlong was shut off and compelled to pull up and come around and in a whirlwind finish just failed to get up. Ethics was excessively used in the early stages and making his run too soon, tired after leading the field at the end of seven furlongs. Gaviota was not equal to giving away so much weight. Circus ran a good race and made up a lot of ground in the last quarter. Stonewall ran a bad race. Highlanders legs must be trivinfr him trouble, as he unexpectedly failed to stay.
