Fuller mad3 his effort in the last fifty yards and. drawing away, won a remarkably game and high-class race by a small margin. Ascension, favored bv the soft going and suddenly improved, ran lapped on the winner from the start and when it seemed as if her advantage in weight would tell, she was all out and unprepared for the younger fillys bit of reserve speed in the closing strides. Young Henry ran close in behind the first two throughout and, after looming up dangerously on the inside, he fell away again in the last sixteenth. Irish Witch ran a good race and finished fairly close up. Scratched 42G14 River Pirate, 117; 42G423Palette, 90. Overweights Ascension, 2 pounds. No showbetting on first three. Cottage Maid, skillfully rated and lucky, liked the going and. closing up fast in the stretch drew out with a rush right at the end. Alpaca, after making all the running, was outstayed in the closing drive by the winner, but ran a fast and gam-3 race. Widows Mite held a forward position throughout and put up a good stretch run. Squanto got away poorly and made up a lot of ground. Nine Spot, also away very badly and having a rough journey, closed a big gap. Hackensack fell away badly in the last furlong. Star and Garter favors a sloppy track. Setauket got away badly and was always outrun. Belle of Portland was swerving over to the inside deep going and tired badly at the end. Sonoma Belle nearly left, closed a tremendous gap in the deepest going throughout, was very poorly handled and might have won if well ridden. St. Gallen finished a fast going fifth and showed improved form. Gay Lizzette had not much chance with her incapable jockey and ran in the deep footing. Pompano got away very badly. Sneer failed to stay after forcing the pace for five furlongs. Scratched 42404 Clovis, 110. Overweights St. Gallen, 1 pound; Gay Lizzette, 1; Pompano, 1; My Alice, 1. Raider, show, 2 to 1. Winner Ch. c, by Hastings Nineveh trained by F. Regan. Went to post at 3:25. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Namtor, a vastly improved horse, fresh and good and particularly favored by the track conditions, raced into a slight lead on the far turn and, in a long and terrific drive home, outstayed such a redoubtable stretch runner as Carbuncle. The latter ran lapped on the winner throughout and in spite of having the best of it in the outside position, failed to get up and tired badly in the final sixteenth. Gaviota trailed the field to the stretch, where she came along and caught the others tiring. Lord Advocate quit after going a good half. Daisy Green did not run her race today, was incapably handled and appeared to have but little speed. Winner Br. g, by His Highness Nellie Bly trained by D. Gideon. Went to post at 3:50. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Blytheness got away in his stride and forced the pace to the stretch turn where, coming wide, he relinquished his lead to Shady Lad. He then wore the latter down and in a brisk finish just got home in the last stride from M. Theo. The latter finished with a rush, appeared to have gotten up, ran a game race and was unlucky to have lost. Shady Lad displayed amazing speed in spite of his traversing the worst going throughout, but fell away suddenly when beginning the last sixteenth. Sweet Tone finished going well. Belle of Belle Meade got away badly and made up considerable ground. Agnes Brennan ran a bad race and was always outrun. Second Sight is a slew beginner and was nearly left. Illyria followed the pacemaker closely and in the long drive home just got up in the final stride. Sheriff Bell was best and after being early shuflled back came through next to the rail with a tremendous rush and finished fastest of all. In another stride he was a half length in the lead. Sweet Alice, reserved as usual to the stretch, made good with a game effort and outstayed the favorite at the end. River Pirate, sluggish and lacking his usual speed, ran a bad race, moved up on the far turn and then fell away again, swerving all over the course. Gold Bell cut a sorry figure in the race. Girdle, after a fine display of speed, failed to stay and was evidently handicapped by the stiff going. Scratched 42653 Lord Advocate, 105. Illyria, show, evens. Sheriff Beli show, 1 to 2. Sweet Alice, show, evens. River Pirate, show, out.
