Scorpio beat the barrier and was off running, while the others were all tangled up and opened a lead in the first furlong which could not be overcome. Van Ness wore New York down while rounding the far turn and finished fast. Elsie L. ran well and got third place in the last stride. New York ran disappointingly and tired badly in the stretch. Parisienne showed a fine turn of ppeed, raced to the front in the first furlong and set a fast pace, but was tiring at the end and had to be shaken up. Belle Mahone began slowly and had to go around her field to get up, but finished fast. Tioga tired in the last sixteenth. Sweet Nell was always outrun. Montebank ran to his best form, vent around the leaders at the first turn and raced into the lead without much effort, but had to be hard ridden in the last furlong to stall off Sea Shark. The latter made a bold effort at the turn into the homestretch, but tired after getting to Montebank. Wreath of Ivy was under a hard drive in the last sixteenth to stall off Mildred L. The latter was bumped at the start and knocked back, but closed a big gap and would have beaten Wreath of Ivy in a few more strides. Overhand and Soldier of ; Fortune tired in the last furlong. "Won driving; second the same. Dutiful broke from the extreme outside and had to go around his field to get up, came wide at the turn into the homestretch and, finishing fast, caught Conkling tiring and got up in the last few strides. Conkling met with a lot of interference and had to go through on the inside in the run down the backstretch, but saved ground at the turn into the homo-stretch and, finishing out gamely, was unlucky to lose. J. P. Mayberry was always prominent and ran to his best form. Duncan ran well to the stretch, but tired in the last furlong. Monastic II. showed early speed, but tired under his heavy impost when the hard racing came on. Exclamation went well for a half only. Scratched WODTIorning Star, 110. The latter was much used in chasing Past and tired when the final drive came. Past was at home in the sloppy going and snowed early speed, but tired under pressure. Circus Girl was eased up at ths end. Bellario sulked all the way. Homestead dropped out of it on the backstretch and dislikes muddy going.
