Hammeraway, from the barn of M. H. Tichenor and Co., was plunged on for many thousands of dollars to win the closing race at Oakland today. Ill luck attended the colt throughout. He was hopelessly pocketed the last fifty yards of the journey and forced to pull up. Otherwise he would probably have won. He was lame when lie came back to the stand. Pal, winner of the second race, was bid up from to ,300 by W. W. EUiott, but was retained by ids owner. Zeke Abrains claimed Pronta out of the fourth race for ,r25. The Pacific Coast Jockey Club has allotted dates for the spring meeting at Petaluma. There will be twelve racing days from May 7 to 1!. W. B. Jennings, accompanied by jockey S. Bonner, today appeared licfore the stewards and announced that as far as he was concerned the colored rider had fulfilled his contract over which suit lias iR-cii pending since last season. He has, however, no further use for him, but recommended that he be reinstated by the jockey chili. H. T. Grltlin recently sold the two-year-olds Elm-dale and Nappa to J. Coffey.
