Belle of the Bay got away tangled up and had to go around on the outside to get to the leaders and out-gamed Spion when it came to the final drive. Astarita ran to her best recent form. Ida Davis showed speed, but tired. Chief Hayes ran an unaccountably lad race, far below his true form. Margaret Angela lost ground by making a wide turn into the homestretch, but outgained J. Ed Grillo when It came to the final drive. The latter set a fast pace, but quit when Oirard challenged. Heart of Hyacinth was bumped into and crowded back when the start came, but closed a big gap and finished fast. Lielicr Gore came fast in the stretch. El Rey showed speed. The latter was fighting for his head for the first mile, but tired and unaccountably failed to stay. Padre was sharply cut off on the turn into the homestretch and dropped out of contention. Buxom went well, but tired in the last few strides under poor handling. Kings Gem ran in much improved form and would have won but for suffering from interference.
