LATONIAS DAY OF COUPS. JUDITH LOUISE IS A "GOOD THING" FROM THE RESPESS STABLE. Elastic Wins at a Fancy Price for Louis Lcmp and Party Drezcl, However, Fails Through Cotillions Foul Steeplechase Mishaps. Cincinnati, O., July 9. Todays card at Latonia called out the most ordinary collection of horses that have met in competition during the present meeting. However, the sport was better than expected and the attendance was large. The success of Judith Louise, a smart youngster from the Respess bam iu the second race was a severe blow to the bookmakers here and, from all accounts, elsewhere. Opening at 15 to 1 and in some books for a moment or two quoted at 20 to 1, the money poured into the ring on her and forced a cut in the price until 4 to 1 was the best obtainable. She made good iii decisive style and, judging from her performance today, better things can be expected of her. Another good thing that netted his connections handsomely was Elastic, owned by Louis Lcmp of St. Louis. On his last appearance he was badly beaten and taking this as a specimen of his capabilities, the bookmakers always laid a fancy price. Nicol got Elastic off forwardly and won all the way. The closing race found Drexel the medium of an attempted big coup, but it failed, chiefly because of Prestons f oul tactics in keeping the McCafferty horse pinned against the inner rail for the major part of the last half. Cotillion, which just beat out Drexel, was disqualified for Prestons rough work and third place given to Drexel. In the steeplechase mishaps were numerous and luckily no one was injured. Snowdrift, the favorite, unshipped jockey Porter at the third jump aud continued riderless with the others to the last jump. She alternated In the lead with St. Enoch, but at the final field jump she mistook the course aud in attempting to go to the left caused a mix-up which was responsible for the falling of St. Enoch and Stoddard and the running out of Ohio King. Among todays arrivals were Mose Goldblatt and jockey Aubuchon. Goldblatt says his horses will be shipped here tomorrow. J. O. Keene Is trying to secure stable room and if successful, will ship his entire string here from Kenilworth. William Gerst shipped Poster Girl, Mendocino, -Al-vise, Lady Carol and Matabon to Fort Erie, where-they will be raced by George Holle. Trainer Will McDaniel received a telegram from his brother Henry announcing the safe arrival of Brancas at Sheepshead Bay. F. M. Arthur claimed Jay Swift from Scott Hudson, which ran in the second race. His claiming price was 00. Dainty Dame and Old Honesty will shortly be shipped to Saratoga. II. Boyle purchased SIgmund after the runuiug of the steeplechase. Augur again pulled up on the verge of breaking down aud was with difficulty led back to his stable.
